Iran and Nigeria unite in wrestling solidarity Training Camp
ABUJA (NIG) - As part of CISM’s ongoing efforts to promote peace, solidarity, and the exchange of expertise through sport, the Armed Forces of Iran and Nigeria successfully conducted a Wrestling Solidarity & Friendly Training Camp from March 16 to 25, 2025, in Abuja, Nigeria.
This 10-day initiative, organized under the banner of the CISM Solidarity Program, brought together three elite Iranian wrestling coaches and a group of Nigerian military coaches and athletes for an intensive technical and physical training course. Hosted at the Nigerian Armed Forces Sports Camp, the camp provided a dynamic platform for mutual learning, cultural exchange, and friendship through sport.
The training sessions covered a wide array of topics essential to wrestling excellence, including:
- Wrestling-specific strength training
- Technical drills and skill correction
- Nutrition and physical preparation
- Agility, balance, and endurance enhancement
- Aerobic conditioning and recovery techniques
- Water-based training modules
- Tactical assessments and athlete feedback
This collaborative program was not only a technical success but also a powerful demonstration of the unifying role of sport in the military context. It created space for meaningful interaction between the personnel of both nations, fostering a sense of mutual respect and camaraderie that extends beyond the mat.
The event was made possible thanks to the dedicated coordination between the Iranian and Nigerian CISM Delegations, and the strong leadership of Brigadier General Jamshid Fooladi, Chief of the Iranian Delegation to CISM, and Air Vice Marshal NK Kumzhi, Chief of the Nigerian Delegation. Their vision and support were key to the program’s impact and smooth execution.
The Wrestling Solidarity Camp stands as a testament to CISM’s founding mission: building peace and friendship through sport. Born in the aftermath of global conflict, CISM remains a symbol of unity, cooperation, and shared purpose among the armed forces of the world.
