Final day of competition showcases thrilling Patrol Race and Mixed Relay

LUCERNE (SUI) – The 5th CISM Winter Military World Games concluded with two exhilarating events at the Nordic Center in Goms: the Patrol Race and the Mixed Relay in Ski Orienteering. The endurance, teamwork, and military precision of the patrol race were on full display, while the mixed relay delivered an intense and tactical contest on the snowy trails.

 

France and Finland shine in the Patrol Race

 

In the women’s patrol race, Team France delivered a commanding performance, claiming gold with an impressive total time of 37:06.3 minutes. Italy followed in second place with 38:23.7 minutes, while Sweden secured bronze, clocking in at 38:40.3 minutes.

 

 

The men’s race was a nail-biting showdown. Finland took the gold medal with a time of 44:04.6 minutes, edging out Germany by just 0.3 seconds (44:04.9 minutes). France rounded out the podium with 44:39.1 minutes. Host nation Switzerland put up a strong fight, finishing eighth in the men’s race (45:48.3 minutes) and sixth in the women’s event (40:51.2 minutes).

 

Sweden dominates Ski Orienteering Mixed Relay

 

In the mixed relay ski orienteering, Sweden’s team 1 delivered a stellar performance to take gold. Evelina Wickbom completed her course in 11:46 minutes, followed by Rasmus Wickbom, bringing their total time to 24:24 minutes. They crossed the finish line in 49:19 minutes, securing the top spot. The Estonian team 1 claimed silver, with Daisy Kudre-Schnyder finishing her section in 12:32 minutes, and Olle Ilmar Jaama contributing to a total time of 50:44 minutes. Bronze went to Sweden’s 2 with a time of 50:47 minutes. Isabel Salen completed her course in 11:50 minutes, while Simon Eriksson followed with a split time of 24:28 minutes.

A fitting conclusion to the Nordic Competitions

 

With today’s thrilling races, the Nordic competitions of the 5th CISM Winter Military World Games concluded against the stunning backdrop of the Swiss Alps. The events in Goms showcased not only world-class athleticism but also reinforced CISM’s core mission – “Friendship through Sport” – fostering international cooperation and mutual understanding among military athletes.
