A spectacular slalom finale at the 5th CISM Military World Winter Games

LUCERNE (SUI) – Under radiant sunshine and perfect slope conditions, the highly anticipated slalom event of the 5th CISM Military World Winter Games took center stage today at the Jochpass. Following two weather-related cancellations earlier in the week, the excitement and energy surrounding this final competition were palpable.

 

Thrilling battles in the Slalom Individual competition

 

The women’s slalom saw an impressive victory by Marion Chevrier of France, while Aline Höpli (Skiklub Gossau) secured a silver medal for Switzerland. Fellow French skier Doriane Escane rounded out the podium in third place, narrowly edging out Anuk Brändli (Skiklub Arosa), who finished in fourth.

In the men’s slalom, Hannes Zingerle of Italy delivered a stellar performance to claim the gold medal. Austria’s Adrian Pertl took silver, while Switzerland’s Joel Lütolf (Skiklub Bannalp-Wolfenschiessen) delighted the home crowd with a bronze-medal finish. Several Swiss athletes also placed in the top 15, including Delio Kunz (8th), Nick Spörri (10th), Reto Mächler (11th), and Fadri Janutin (15th). Unfortunately, Gino Stucki was unable to complete his first run.

 

Remarkable performances in Parasports

 

In the Standing Men category of the parasport competition, Italy’s Davide Nadai was the sole competitor to successfully complete the course. Meanwhile, in the Sitting Men category, Switzerland’s Felix Frohofer finished as the only athlete to cross the line, marking a significant achievement.

Despite earlier disruptions due to weather, today’s competition provided a fitting and memorable conclusion to the Games. Athletes expressed their pride in representing their nations and their appreciation for the camaraderie and competitive spirit that defined the event.

The 5th CISM Military World Winter Games will officially conclude tomorrow evening with a grand closing ceremony at Messe Luzern. This week of outstanding athletic achievements and the enduring spirit of “friendship through sport” will reach its pinnacle, celebrating the athletes' dedication and resilience. The podium finishes of Aline Höpli and Joel Lütolf further underscore the strength of the Swiss delegation, whose commitment exemplifies the values of international military sports.
