Table tennis: China wipe the table for gold medal clean sweep

WUHAN (CHN) – FAN Zhendong and MU Zi led China to a gold medal sweep of the table tennis competition at the Wuhan Five Rings Sports Center Gymnasium, winning their respective men’s and women’s singles finals on Saturday's last day of competition.

FAN won his fourth gold medal of the competition with his 4-0 singles victory over JEOUNG Young SIK (KOR). The world number two won all the events he took part in, including the men’s team, men’s doubles and mixed doubles.

Not to be outdone, MU Zi (CHN) took the women’s singles crown 4-2 in an entertaining encounter with KIM Song I (PRK), completing a hat-trick of gold medals. She had earlier paired up with CHEN Ke (CHN) and FAN (CHN) to win the women’s doubles and mixed doubles titles respectively.

XU Chenhao (CHN) made it a two-man men's singles China podium after winning bronze with a 4-1 victory over KIM Donghyun (KOR). LIU Xi (CHN) did a repeat of the scoreline in the women's singles over SUN Mingyang (CHN) to take third place in that event.

China’s medal haul from table tennis totalled a dizzying 11 medals, with six golds, three silver and two bronze. DPR Korea was second with two silver and three bronze, while Republic of Korea finished with a silver and bronze.
