64th WMC Military Pentathlon – Salinas (ECU) – Update – Opening Ceremony and Day 1

 

 

Back in Ecuador!

 

SALINAS (ECU) – Three years after the 2nd CISM World Cadet Games, Ecuador is once again hosting an important event of the CISM Sports Calendar 2017, the 64th WMC Military Pentathlon 2017. On this occasion, Salinas, a coastal city located in the Province of Santa Elena, welcomed the 147 athletes from 28 countries for the Opening Ceremony of the event that took place on July 30.

 

 

Several high authorities attended the event: Brigadier-General France Allen (CAN), member of the Board of Directors and CISM Official Representative of the event; Mr. Miguel Carjaval, Minister of Defense of Ecuador; Ltg. Roque Moreira Cedeño, President of the 64th WMPC Organizing Committee, Commander Troya Jose Luis, Director of the 64th WMPC OC; the heads of delegations of the participating nations as well as military and local authorities.

 

 

The first competition event started today with the shooting event:

 

The Estonian Sergeant Roman Hvalonski realized an impressive performance, with 98 points in slow fire and 95 points in rapid fire and 5 inner tens (X-rings) giving him the gold medal of the shooting event and the provisional lead of the individual ranking with 1116,2 points!

 

 

With 1107,0 points (98 SF – 93 RD – 8x), 2.Lt Erik Frøseth Solheim took the silver medal while the Chinese Corporal Zhang Zheng was ranked third (1106,2 points – 97 SF – 94 SF – 5x).

Belarus (Shkuruk, Herasimau, Vasileuski, Markevich and Viarenich) took the provisional first place of the team men’s ranking with 4378,6 points ahead of Ecuador (Merchan, Torres, Carrasco, De Leon and Rodriguez) and China (Zhang, Wang, Gong, Pan and Aniuergu) who are respectively ranked second and third with 4332,2 points and 4314,6 points.

 

 

China clearly dominated the shooting women individual and team events as Corporal Qian Wi and Corporal Chaonan Guan finished on the first spots of the individual podium with Wu taking the gold medal with a total of 1106,0 points (98 SF – 93 RF – 4x), 5 points ahead of the silver medalist Guan (97 SF – 93 RF – 4x). Fj. Jenny Lindkvist (SWE), who already broke the shooting world record last year in Wiener Neustadt, grabbed the bronze medal with 1090,5 points (93 SF – 95 RF - 2x).


The female Chinese team, composed of Wu, Guan, Wang and Lu, also took the lead team event ahead of Denmark (Hjalager, Nielsen, Tolstrup and Kjãr – 3187,2 points) and Ecuador (Coronel, Rodriguez, Crespo and Jumbo – 3142,4 points).

 

 

Today, July 01, the athletes will take part in the Obstacle Run event!
