64th WMC Military Pentathlon – Salinas (ECU) – Update – Day 2

 

 

Obstacle Run Event

 

SALINAS (ECU) – After the shooting event that took place two days ago, the 147 athletes present in Salinas participated in the obstacle run event yesterday, August 1.

The length of the course is 500 m and consists of 20 standardized obstacles. The contest is to be held on one or several lanes, if all lanes are identical. Each competitor is compelled to follow his own lane. The obstacles is constructed and placed on the track. Obstacles of men's event consist of: Rope ladder; Double beam; Trip wire; Network of wire; Ford; Espalier; Balance beam; Sloping wall with rope; Horizontal beams; Irish table; Tunnel and twin beams; Four steps of beams; Banquette and pit; Assault wall; Pit; Vertical ladder; Assault wall II; Zigzag balance beam; Chicane; Three assault walls in succession. In the women's event, the rope ladder, sloping wall with rope, four steps of beams and vertical ladder are not negotiated.

 

 

The local Cbos Lenin Rodriguez (ECU) realized a great performance (2:11,6 – 1198,8 points) in front of a crowd getting behind their fellow citizen. He finished on the first place of the podium with a 0,3 seconds lead ahead of 1.Lt Yucheng Pan from China (1196,7 points). Corporal Philipp Eibl finished the race on the third place of the podium (2:14,5 – 1178,5 points). Corporal Eibl’s performance allowed him to take the provisional lead of the individual overall ranking with 2268,7 points while 1.Lt Aliaksandr Vasileuski (2265,4 points) and Sgt Wilberto Torres (2258,8 points) are completing the podium.

 

 

After its second place yesterday in the shooting event, the Ecuadorian Male Team (Rodriguez, Torres, Carrasco, De Leon and Merchan) ascended the top of the podium of the Obstacle Run Team men event with Brazil and Democratic People's Republic of Korea (Ri, Han H.H., Kim K. H., Han K. I. and Kim U. C.) respectively silver and bronze medalists. With this result, Ecuador is also leading the provisional team ranking after two events with 8906,2 points ahead of Brazil (Sales, Bordin, Cabral, Castro and Garcia – 8859,4 points) and Belarus (Vasileuski, Shkuruk, Heramisau, Markevich and Viarenich – 8858,1 points).

 

 

In the individual women’s obstacle run event, the Russian Sergeant Anastasiia Konokpo was the fastest athlete of the day, finishing the course on the first place ahead of the two DPRK athletes 2.Lt Su Ryon Kim and Captain Ok Ryu, with a respective 3,8 and 4,6 seconds lead on the silver and bronze medalists.

Corporal Chaonan Guan (2250,1 points) from China is now leading the provisional ranking with a 19,5 points lead on her fellow citizen Corporal Wu Qian (2230,6) and Private Sara Hjalager (2220,0 points) from Denmark is currently ranked third after the two first events.

 

 

After winning the shooting team event, the Chinese female team (Guan, Wang, Wu and Lu – 3410,2 points) took the silver medal of the obstacle run team event as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (Kim, Ryu, Choe and Ri ) won a deserved gold medal with 3441,0 points while Russia (Konokpo, Egorova, Aksenova and Tikhonovich – 3406,7 points) is ranked third. Despite these results, China is still leading the provisional female team ranking after two events and must now defend its 181,2 points lead on DPRK. Russia will have to keep on its performances to maintain the lead on the Danish team in the bronze medal battle!

Today, July 02, the athletes will take part in the Obstacle Swimming event!
