CARACAS (VEN) - The 4th CISM World Cadet Games 2024 in Venezuela continued to deliver thrilling performances and fierce competition on Day 3, with athletes from China, Russia, and Venezuela taking center stage across various disciplines. The day's events showcased the athletic prowess and intense rivalry between the participating nations, further underscoring the international camaraderie and sportsmanship that defines this event.

 

China excels in Men’s Rifle and Pistol events

 

In the men’s individual rifle and pistol categories, China reaffirmed its supremacy in sports shooting, claiming the top two positions on the podium in both events. At Tiuna Fort, the Chinese shooters displayed precision and focus that left a lasting impression.

In the Men’s Rifle event, Lyu Sunyu clinched the gold medal with a score of 208 points, followed closely by Zhan Dongru, who secured the silver with 204 points. Russia’s Gladyshev Roman rounded out the podium, earning bronze with a score of 202 points. The event featured stiff competition from shooters representing Russia, Iran, Nicaragua, Mozambique, and Venezuela, all of whom showcased their skills in a highly competitive environment.

 

The Men’s Pistol event was equally intense, with Qi Xin of China taking the gold with an impressive 276 points. Li Dahe, also from China, won silver with 271 points, and Russia’s Salin Mikhail took bronze with 270 points. Despite not reaching the podium, the Venezuelan shooters exhibited strong performances, demonstrating their dedication to the sport.

 

Russia and Venezuela showcase fencing prowess

 

The Military Academy of the Bolivarian National Guard of Venezuela was the venue for a dramatic day of fencing, with the Men’s Epee team competition taking center stage. Russia and Venezuela, having previously excelled in the foil and sabre events, faced off once again in a tense and closely contested match.

Russia emerged victorious with a decisive 7-2 win in the epee event, securing their place as the dominant fencing team in the competition. The match was marked by exceptional skill and sportsmanship, with both teams receiving strong support from the audience in a spirited atmosphere of friendship and rivalry.

 

The individual fencing competitions are eagerly anticipated as the next phase of the tournament, where the best fencers from each nation will compete for individual glory.

 

China shines in Military Pentathlon

 

The Military Pentathlon continued to be a highlight of the Games, with the pool obstacle event providing a thrilling test of agility, endurance, and strategy. China’s delegation once again proved their mettle, achieving remarkable times that set them apart from their competitors.

During this event, Chinese athletes excelled with standout times, followed closely by Russian competitors. The day saw intense duels, particularly between China and Russia, with China narrowly winning. The event concluded with Turkey defeating Russia in the final round, showcasing the high level of skill and determination among the young athletes.

 

Record-breaking performances in Track and Field

 

At the Brígido Iriarte National Stadium, the athletics competitions continued to captivate audiences. In the Women’s 400-Meter Dash, Venezuelan Cadet Valery Montenegro made history by breaking the World Cadet Games record with a time of 57.34 seconds, earning the gold medal. Russian cadets Anna Kontsedailo and Sofiia Bukina secured silver and bronze, respectively.

In the Women’s 5000-Meter Race, China’s Liau Jiahui took the gold with a time of 19:45.92 minutes, while Venezuelan Cadet Yhuslyn Cisneros Ayala won silver with a time of 20:00.77. Li Zehui of China earned the bronze.

 

The Men’s 400-Meter Final saw Pakistan’s Moeed Abdul take gold with a time of 48.20 seconds, followed by Venezuelan Cadet Franyer Mendoza Morocaima (48.86) and Turkey’s Kurt Mahmud (48.98), who earned silver and bronze, respectively.

 

In the Shot Put, Venezuelan Moisés Rodríguez Pérez captured gold with a throw of 12.82 meters, followed by Turkey’s Celik Dogan (12 meters) and Venezuelan Carlos Briceño Velásquez (8.75 meters), who took silver and bronze.

The day concluded with the 4x100-Meter Relay, where Russia won gold with a time of 41.52 seconds, China took silver with 41.91, and Venezuela claimed bronze with 42.31 seconds.

 

Venezuela shines in swimming on second day of IV World Cadet Games 2024

 

Our cadets continued to impress on the second day of the IV World Cadet Games 2024 as Swimming had a stellar second day, securing eight new medals in events including the 200-meter Women's Backstroke, 200-meter Men's Backstroke, 200-meter Women's Breaststroke, 100-meter Women's Freestyle, 100-meter Women's Butterfly, 100-meter Men's Butterfly, and the 4x100 Mixed Freestyle Relay.

The event was marked by the presence of Vice Admiral Edward Centeno Mass, Second Commander and Chief of the Naval Staff of the Bolivarian Navy. He expressed immense pride in the Venezuelan delegation, commending their dedication and success during the competitions.

 

Orienteering race tests Cadets’ skills

 

The Orienteering Race took place at the Generalísimo Francisco de Miranda Park, with cadets from Russia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Nicaragua, and Venezuela competing in a challenging sprint model event. The race tested the athletes' map reading, orientation, and endurance as they navigated through demanding terrain.

 

Colonel Reza Bagheri Koli, CISM Games Project Manager, praised the high level of organization and the spirit of brotherhood that permeated the event. The Orienteering Relay Race, scheduled for August 21, promises to be another thrilling competition.

The Nicaraguan cadets, participating in these games for the first time, shared their excitement about this new experience. Jeferson Castillo emphasized the opportunity to gain new knowledge while proudly representing their country. Meanwhile, José Sirias underscored his team's dedication to advancing in this discipline and elevating Nicaraguan sports to new heights.

 

As the IV World Cadet Games continue, the excitement builds with upcoming events in athletics, judo, and military pentathlon. With several days of competition still ahead, these Games are set to provide more unforgettable moments, showcasing the dedication, talent, and international unity of young athletes from around the world.
