3rd CISM World Cadet Games 2022 – Saint-Petersburg (RUS) - Competition Day 4
SAINT-PETERSBURG (RUS) - The first day of volleyball competition of the 3rd World Cadet Games started with an emotional match between Venezuela and Zimbabwe. The Venezuelan athletes quickly took the lead and did not let go until the end of the match, winning the match three sets to zero in an exceptional atmosphere. Then Russia faced Saudi Arabia and the Russian volleyball players showed all their talent by quickly defeating their opponent in three straight sets.
The next day, the women's teams of Russia and Mali were the first to play. The Russians, confident at the beginning of the match, quickly finished the match and made Mali suffer its second defeat in a row.
The next matches were Iran facing Saudi Arabia and Russia against Zimbabwe. Iran and Russia did not give their opponents a chance and both matches ended with a score of 3/0.
The third day of competition was the scene of a clash between the two African teams that are Mali and Zimbabwe. The two teams offered the public an entertaining match finally won by Mali but also a magnificent show in the stands with spectators who danced and sang throughout the match.
Then, in the clash between Iran and Zimbabwe, the African team could not contain the pressure of their opponents. Despite all the efforts of the Zimbabweans, the match ended quickly with a score of 3/0 in favor of Iran.
The last match of the third day was also very spectacular as Russia faced Venezuela. Both teams were fighting for every point in this match and the Venezuelans were giving the Russian volleyball players a challenging time. However, the Russian team finally got the upper hand, much to the delight of the many fans present at the match.
Russia won the women's volleyball tournament in front of Mali and Zimbabwe after a tournament that was a popular success!
In shooting sports, four medals were on the program of this fourth day of competition.
In the 25m Military Rapid Fire Pistol Men's event, Belarusian cadets Siarhei Chabatarenka, Marek Kalbaska and Uladzimir Yakhnavets won gold with a total of 777 points ahead of Russia (776 points) and Myanmar (684 points). The women's competition was won by Russia (Mariya Naumovets, Alena Domonosova and Tamara Zakharova) with a score of 718 points ahead of Belarus (717 points) and Venezuela (716 points).
In the 200m Military Rapid Fire Rifle Men and Women event, it was the Russian team that made a double win by taking both gold medals. Ivan Bakulin, Andrey Zakharov, and Nikita Sohrin scored a total of 728 points to win the title with thirty points ahead of silver medalist Myanmar, while Iran finished third (694 points). Anastasiya Rusakova, Anastasiya Kudryavtseva and Viktoria Tikhonova also took the title with 738 points ahead of Iran (670 points) and Belarus (666 points).
In the summer biathlon, held at the Kavgolovo training center, the cadets competed in the 4 km Sprint for men and the 3 km Sprint for women.
Russia achieved a hat-trick in the men's competition with Savva Tosenko winning in a time of 14:31'9''. Egor Razuvaev finished second in 15:11'9'' while Maksim Nikiforov finished third in 15:19''. In the women's category, the young Russian Irina Kruglova took the first place in 15:22'7''. She is ahead of the Belarusian Kseniya Mikhno (16:49'2'') while the Russian Marina Ogar finishes on the third step of the podium (16:59'5'').
In military pentathlon, the flagship discipline of these 3rd World Cadet Games, the spectators witnessed a raid of Russian medals.
Vitally Vladimirov won the men's individual competition ahead of his compatriot Dmitry Ushkov and the Syrian Mohamed Ali Al Nashwaty. In the women's competition, the podium was 100% Russian with the victory of Aleksandra Timofeeva ahead of Victoria Vinogradova and Anna Belyakova. In view of the individual results, it is not surprising that Russia also won the women's and men's team competitions in military pentathlon.
In swimming, several races were on the program of this day of competition. The Syrian Inana Suleiman won the 400m Freestyle Women's title ahead of the Russians Alina Egorova and Tatyana Kamaeva. The other seven gold medals of the day were won by Russia thanks to the titles of Mikhail Bondar (50m Butterfly Men), Varvara Klimenok (50m Butterfly Women), Vladislav Demchenko (400m Freestyle Men), Amir Halitov (200m Breaststroke Men), Anna Chastikhina (100m Breaststroke Women), Nikita Kurenev (200m Medley Men) and the 4x100m Freestyle Men relay composed of Dmitry Mysin, Nikita Kurenev, Danila Inbulaev and Mikhail Bondar.
August 9 was also the setting for the last day of the athletics competition of the 3rd World Cadet Games with eight finals on the program.
It is first the Russian Andrey Kuznetsov who won the gold medal in Shot Put Men with a throw at 16,15m in front of Moises Daniel Rodriguez Perez (VEN) and Raymond Mamba (SWZ).
The Armenian delegation managed to win two gold medals through Yervand Mkrtchyan in 1500m Men and Ramzi Mkrtchyan in 200m Men.
The Russian Anna Krut won another gold medal thanks to her title in the 1500m Women ahead of Violetta Mareskina (RUS) and the Venezuelan Genesis Yolanda Gudiño Toro.
The Malian Dougnou Tamboura achieved a superb performance by snatching the title in the 200m Women ahead of the Russian Verveina and the Venezuelan Romero González.
The Russian delegation won the last three gold medals of the competition with the victory of Vladislav Zhulikov in the 10000m Men and the titles of the 4x400m Women and Men Relay, with in passing a new WCG world record for the Russian men's team.
