NEGOMBO BEACH (SRI) - The 4th WMC Beach Volleyball Press Conference was held yesterday, February 9, at the Air Force Headquarters facility. Indeed, the Sri Lankan Army is hosting the first event on the CISM sports calendar this year under the supervision of the President of the Defense Services Sports Board and the Sri Lankan Air Force Sports Council, the Air Force Commander, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, and with the overwhelming support of Sri Lanka's Army Commander, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, and Sri Lanka's Navy Commander, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera.
The tournament will be held from 13 to 17 February 2023 on the beach of Negombo with the participation of military athletes from 8 CISM member nations namely Colombia, Germany, France, Netherlands, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela and the host country Sri Lanka with 16 men's teams and 9 women's teams.
The Press Conference was chaired by the Chairman of the WMC Beach-Volleyball Organizing Committee and the Director General of Logistics of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Nishantha Thilakasinghe and was also attended by the Sri Lanka incumbent Sports Directors, Brigadier Nalin Bandaranayake (Army) and Commodore Roshan Athukorala (Navy), as well as the Secretary of the WMC Organizing Committee Group Captain Chrishantha Fernando and the Secretary of the Air Force Sports Council, Group Captain Eranda Geeganage. A large number of journalists from the electronic and print media were also present on this occasion.
The opening ceremony will be held on February 12, 2023 while the awarding of trophies and certificates and the closing ceremony will be held on February 17, 2023 in the morning at Goldi Sands Hotel.
