NEGOMBO BEACH (SRI) - Yesterday, representatives of seven member nations (Colombia, France, Germany, Netherlands, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka) gathered at the Sri Lanka Katunayake Air Force Base facilities for the Opening Ceremony of the 4th WMC Beach Volleyball taking place from 13 to 17 February 2023, in Negombo Beach, Sri Lanka.

The Ceremony was attended by the Secretary General of CISM, Navy Captain Roberto Recchia, Official CISM Representative of the event; the Deputy Chief of the Air Forces Staff of Sri Lanka, Air Vice Marshal Roshan Biyanwila; the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Air Vice Marshal Nishantha Thilakesinghe; Air Vice Marshal Lasitha Sumanaweera, Commander of SLAF Base Katunayake; Group Captain Chrishantha Fernando, Secretary of the Organizing Committee; Group Captain Eranda Geeganage, Secretary of the Air Force Sports Council; senior officers of the local and foreign armed forces; and sportsmen.
This 4th World Military Beach Volleyball Championship will see the participation of many athletes who have already participated in high level national and international competitions.
The first matches of the championship will start today with several matches scheduled for the day.

Navy Captain Roberto Recchia, CISM Secretary General, took the opportunity of this first day of competition to visit the Air Force Commander, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana.
After a cordial discussion about the organization of this WMC Beach Volleyball, official plaques were exchanged between the CISM Secretary General and the Sri Lankan Commander.
