NEGOMBO BEACH (SRI) - The preliminary round matches of the 4th WMC Beach Volleyball 2023 kicked off yesterday, February 13, 2023, in Negombo Beach.
Seven CISM Member Nations came to Sri Lanka to participate in this high-level Beach Volleyball tournament: France, Germany, Netherlands, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Colombia and Sri Lanka.
The format of the competition was established according to the number of participating teams, in accordance with the rules of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).
The first matches of the qualifying round started yesterday in the championship format, while the quarterfinals and semifinals will be played in the knockout system. The grand final will take place on February 17, 2023.
Among yesterday's results, we note the two clean sweeps of the men's teams of France 1 and 2, who finished undefeated at the end of this first day of competition. In group C, Germany 1 and Saudi Arabia 1 also take the first place of the group after their two respective victories.
In the women's competition, Sri Lanka, France 1 and Colombia each won their first match of the qualifiers and are in a good position to reach the semi-finals.
