BRIVE-LA-GAILLARDE (FRA) - The 24th World Military Triathlon Championship took place in Brive-la-Gaillarde, France. The event began with a splendid opening ceremony attended by various authorities and dignitaries, including CISM President Colonel Nilton Gomes Rolim Filho and French military officials. Lieutenant General Jérôme Goisque officially opened the championship, emphasizing the values of sports and military ethics. The competitions commenced with swimming, cycling, and running races in different categories.
In the women's elite category, French athlete Mathilde Gautier won the world military triathlon championship, followed by her compatriots Audrey Merle and Sandra Daudet in second and third place, respectively. In the senior women's category, Belgian athlete Mandy Dammekens claimed the title, with Spanish Loreto Pasto Sopelana and Canadian Sarah Graves finishing second and third.
In the men's elite category, French athlete Pierre le Corre emerged as the champion, closely followed by Nathan Lessmann in second place and Belgian Noah Servais in third place. Portuguese athlete Gregorio Marques won the senior men's event ahead of Julien Gonnet (FRA) and Sergio Sobrino Sierra (ESP), respectively ranked second and third.
The competition concluded with the elite and senior mixed relay races. The French mixed relay team, consisting of Mathilde Gautier, Audrey Merle, Pierre Le Corre, and Nathan Lessmann, won the gold medal in the elite event ahead of Hungary and Switzerland. Belgium secured the gold medal in the senior mixed relay event, with Canada and Spain rounding out the podium.
The closing ceremony marked the end of the championship, with speeches from CISM officials and expressions of gratitude towards the organizers and participants. The French delegation received recognition for their victory in the overall classification and their excellent organization of the championship.
