MUNGYEONG (KOR) - The 27th World Military Taekwondo Championship kicked off with great fanfare in Mungyeong, South Korea, showcasing elite athletes from around the world in a display of skill and sportsmanship. Hosted by the Ministry of National Defense and co-organized by Mungyeong City and the Korean Armed Forces Athletic Corps, the event began on May 31 at the Mungyeong Citizens Stadium. Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Gyeongsangbuk-do, the championship featured approximately 260 athletes from 20 countries, competing across eight weight classes for both men and women.

The competition commenced on June 1 at the KAFAC Facilities, previously home to the 2015 CISM World Summer Games, featuring intense matches across various weight categories. Notable results from the opening day included victories for athletes like Angélique Orozco (Canada) and Dong Wook Lee (South Korea), showcasing their prowess in the -46kg and -54kg divisions respectively.
The championship continued with exhilarating matches on June 2, where Uzbekistan's Ulugbek Rashitov and Mariya Sevostyanova of Kazakhstan claimed gold medals in their respective weight classes, impressing with their technique and determination. The competition heated up further on June 5 as the event concluded with outstanding performances from athletes like Vanessa Maria Korndl (Germany) and Aleksandra Kowalczuk (Poland), who secured gold medals in the Women's -67kg and +73kg categories, respectively.
