LEOPOLDSBURG (BEL) – Today, Friday February 17, the CISM HQ joined forces with the Belgian Delegation to CISM and the Belgian Defense to organize the International Day of Military Sports 2023.
This event, organized as close as possible to 18 February, date of CISM creation, aims to promote the practice of sport in the military context and to show to the world in an even stronger and more complete way the presence of our organization at the international level and the importance of sports for the military and their activities. Each delegation has the opportunity to organize and promote an International Day of Military Sports through a sports activity outside or inside the barracks, with military and civilians together promoting the values of friendship, sport, and peace under the CISM motto, "Friendship through Sport".
For this edition 2023 in Belgium, nearly 500 participants, including CISM HQ staff, took part in a 6 or 10km run or a 6km walk in the Kamp Beverlo of Leopoldsburg.
The race also took place in presence of the following: Belgian Defence top athletes Alessia Corrao, Simon Debognies, Adriaan Dewagtere, Robin Hendrix, Dieter Kersten, Neisser Loyola, Lois Petit, Erwin Vanderplancke and Frederik Van Lierde.
This edition had also a particular international flavour since it was enriched by the participation of 40 military from 8 CISM member nations, currently stationing in Belgium.
