53th WMC Shooting – Lahore (PAK) – Competition Day 1 & 2

LAHORE (PAK) - The first day of competition of the 53rd World Military Shooting Championship started yesterday in Lahore, Pakistan, with the Trap Men and Women events.

 

The competition day started with the qualifications at 9.30 am for both male and female athletes.

 

In the women's competition, Lance Corporal Nadeesha Dewmini (SRI) took first place in the qualifying round with a total of 81 points, well ahead of Russian Warrant Officer Anastasia Krakhmaleva who finished with 72 points. The other four qualifiers for the final were Lieutenant Sabrina Bashir (PAK), Lieutenant Amina Tariq (PAK), Captain Anupama Rathnayake (SRI) and Lieutenant Sabeeha (PAK).

Pakistan also performed superbly in the men's qualifying session, placing three athletes in the top three. Lieutenant-Colonel Junaid Ali Zulfiqar (107 points) was ahead of L/MAR Amin Ullah (107 points) while Sep Amir Farooq finished third with 99 points. The other three qualifiers for the finals were Major Aleksei Skorobogatov (RUS), Corporal Nishan Vithana (SRI) and Lieutenant Manoj Pradepp (SRI).

 

The finals were held on the second day of the competitition and the spectators were treated to some great performances from our CISM athletes.

 

After taking second place in the women's qualifications in the morning, Warrant Officer Anastasia Krakhmaleva put in a very high-level performance and crushed the competition. With a total of 37 points, Krakhmaleva became the new World Military Trap Champion ahead of local Lieutenant Sabrina Bashir (PAK), who won silver with 27 points, while Lance Corporal Nadeesha Dewmini (SRI) took bronze with 20 points.

Russia did the double for this first day of competition with the victory of Major Aleksei Skorobogatov in the Trap Men event. Major Skorobogatov, fourth of the qualifications, took the gold medal with a total of 34 points, just ahead of Pakistani L/MAR Amin Ullah, who failed on the second place of the podium with 33 points. Pakistan won a third medal with the third place of Sep Amir Farooq (26 points).

 

 

The Trap Mix Team Match event will take place today, October 5, in Lahore (PAK).
