PIRAEUS (GRE) - The 54th CISM World Military Sailing Championship will commence on Saturday, June 10th, 2023 and conclude on Wednesday, June 14th, 2023, featuring top athletes from around the world. Among the participants are esteemed Olympic sailing champions, including Major Emilia Tsoulfa from Greece, who won the gold medal in Athens, Jolanta Ogar from Poland, who secured the silver medal in Tokyo, and Quentin Delapierre from France.
The inaugural sailing race will kick off on Saturday, June 10th, 2023 at the Naval Club of Greece. The championship has attracted highly skilled crews, as evidenced by the registrations received from various countries, such as Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Spain, France, Italy, Poland, Ukraine, and the host nation, Greece. All the athletes possess extensive experience navigating the challenging sailing conditions of "Falirikos Ormos" – Faliron Bay.
Captain Spyridon Andriopoulos HN, the Chief of the Greek delegation to CISM, expressed his pride: "After 61 years, the Hellenic Armed Forces are organizing the 54th CISM World Military Sailing Championship in Piraeus. I would like to extend a warm welcome to the sailing teams from Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Spain, France, Italy, Poland, and Ukraine, who will join the Greek Team in this prestigious event held at the Naval Club of Greece in Piraeus from June 10th to 14th, 2023."
He also added: "Hosting the championship in Piraeus, renowned for its rich maritime history and tradition, poses a significant challenge, but the Greek Delegation is confident in the success of the organization, given the strong naval heritage and tradition of the country. The Greek Delegation to CISM expresses gratitude to the Region of Attica and the Yacht Club of Greece for their collaborative efforts in co-organizing this championship as well as the General Sports Secretariat and the Municipality of Piraeus for their support. We invite the citizens of Piraeus to relish in the excitement of the races and witness the remarkable endeavors of the participating athletes. “
