Tashkent thrills as military athletes compete for glory on Day 2 of the WMC Judo

TASHKENT (UZB) - The thrilling action of the 42nd World Military Judo Championship continued today at the Tashkent Sports Palace, showcasing an array of talent across various weight categories for both men and women, along with a captivating Military Para-Judo event.

 

In the men’s 81kg final, Uzbekistan’s Khikmatullo Turaev emerged victorious against his teammate Muso Sobirov, securing the gold medal in a match that highlighted their exceptional skills and camaraderie. Bronze medals were claimed by Giacomo Gamba from Italy and Askerbii Gerbekov from Bahrain, both showcasing their prowess throughout the competition.

 

The 90kg category featured an impressive performance from Roland Goz of Hungary, who defeated Switzerland’s Lukas Wittwer to take the gold. Spain's Pablo Buendia Labèlla and Italy’s Tiziano Falcone rounded out the podium, each earning bronze medals for their commendable efforts.

In the 100kg class, it was Rustam Shorakhmatov of Uzbekistan who triumphed, besting Slovakia’s Benjaming Mataseje for the gold. The bronze medals went to Enrico Bergamelli from Italy and Cedric Olivar of France, both contributing to an exciting day of judo.

 

The heavyweight clash in the +100kg category saw Shokhrukh Bakhtiyorov from Uzbekistan overpowering Mongolia’s Ulziibayar Duurenbayar for gold. Austria’s Movli Borchashvili and Algeria’s Lili Mohamed El Mehdi secured bronze, adding to the competitive spirit of the event.

 

On the women’s side, Giorgia Stagherlin of Italy celebrated a gold medal victory in the 70kg category after defeating Slovenia's Anka Pogacnik. The bronze medals were awarded to Ekaterina Onoprienko from Russia and Lucie Jarrot of France, both showcasing remarkable talent throughout the tournament.

In the 78kg division, Audery Tcheumeo from France claimed gold by overcoming North Korea’s Kim Ye Yong, while Ekaterina Tokareva of Kazakhstan and Linda Politi from Italy secured the bronze.

 

Mongolia’s Amarsaikhan Adiyasuren shone in the +78kg category, defeating Uzbekistan’s Judola Iriskhon Kurbanbaeva to clinch gold. Bronze medals went to Erica Simonetti of Italy and Kamila Berlikash from Kazakhstan, underlining the competitive depth of the tournament.

 

The day also featured a spirited Military Para-Judo Event, where athletes displayed incredible skill and determination, adding to the championship's vibrant atmosphere.
