YEREVAN (ARM) - The Republic of Armenia proudly hosts the 37th CISM World Military Wrestling Championship, welcoming delegations from numerous countries to compete in one of the most prestigious international military sports events. The championship will take place from November 20 to 22 at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex, with more than 400 participants showcasing their skills.
On November 19, the Minister of Defence of Armenia, Mr. Suren Papikyan, received a delegation from CISM led by its President, Colonel Nilton Rolim, and including Sports Director Lieutenant Colonel Jan van den Dool and Lieutenant Colonel Djair Akamine of the CISM Sports Department. During the meeting, Minister Papikyan expressed Armenia's commitment to promoting international military sports and emphasized the significance of hosting this championship.
“Armenia, a proud member of CISM since 1994, has actively participated in its programs since 2010. Our athletes have not only competed but have brought honor to the nation through numerous accolades,” said Minister Papikyan. He also extended gratitude to CISM for its trust and organizational support in facilitating this event.
In recognition of their contributions, the CISM President awarded medals to Minister Papikyan, Lieutenant General Edward Asryan, First Deputy Minister of Defence and Chief of the General Staff, and Deputy Minister Arman Sargsyan.
Earlier in the day, Colonel Nilton Rolim, along with the CISM leadership and heads of delegations from participating nations, paid homage at the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex. The solemn visit underscored CISM’s respect for Armenia’s history and its enduring spirit of peace through sport.
The championship’s Opening Ceremony is scheduled for November 20 at 5:00 p.m., marking the beginning of three days of intense competition and camaraderie among the world’s best military wrestlers.
