When in Wuhan … Don’t miss the Light Spectacle on the Banks of the Yangtze River!

WUHAN (CHN) - While competing at the Wuhan Military Games, or participating as a guest, official or volunteer, there is something unique you should not miss. When the many competitions wind down at the end of a tiring day of activities, it pays off to venture outside and have a stroll along the banks of the legendary Yangtze River or on one of the eleven bridges crossing the famous waterway. But wait until it’s pitch-dark. Then you will be amazed by the wonderful panorama of hundreds of historical buildings as well as the bridges across the city lit up with LED lights to honor the 7th CISM Military Summer World Games turning a dark night into a colorful pallet of rainbow colors.

Indeed, thousands of LED lights covering the facades of the many buildings echo the details of modern high-rises and centuries-old edifices by the roadside, together with Wuhan’s famous ‘Yellow Crane Tower’ being a landmark of great cultural significance.

The landscape lighting project was earmarked as one of the largest projects among all the preparatory works for these Games, which started immediately after the city won the hosting rights in 2015.

This new lighting project focused on the natural landscape that the local government has made efforts to preserve, including the Yangtze River, the East Lake and other natural wetland parks.

Nicknamed ‘the city of rivers and lakes’, Wuhan is the biggest city in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, with the Hanjiang River also running through the city.
