ZIELONA GÓRA - DRZONKÓW (POL) - After the Men's and Women's relays, the fourth day of competition at the 48th World Military Modern Pentathlon Championship took place on Friday 3 September with the Men's Individual Final featuring 34 male military athletes from 11 countries: Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia and Ukraine.
As always, the level of competition was incredibly high, with the participation of the best athletes in the world in the discipline, including many Olympians and World Military Championship medalists.
And once again, we were treated to an exciting and hotly contested competition for local spectators and television viewers, with top performances throughout the day.
As with the men's relay, four events and five disciplines were on the day's programme for our male military athletes: swimming, fencing, horse riding, and laser-run in the magnificent facilities of the Drzonków Sports Centre.
Hungarian pentathletes dominated the podium in the men's individual final with a gold medal for Hungarian Olympic pentathlete Bence Demeter, author of two very good performances in swimming and laser-run, who finished on top of the podium only nine points ahead of French silver medallist Jean Baptiste Mourcia (1443 points) and fourteen points ahead of his compatriot Gergo Bruckmann (1438 points), silver medallist.
In the men's team competition, the Hungarian delegation takes advantage of the superb individual results of its athletes to win the gold medal with a final total of 4284 points thanks to Demeter, Bruckmann and Kasza. Poland (Gutkowski, Swiderski and Stasiak) finishes on the second place of the podium with 4206 points) while Brazil (Fagundes, Nobre and Nascimento) takes the bronze with 4177 points, finishing again on the podium after a few years of absence from the podium.
The Flower Ceremony took place right after the competitions in the presence of Colonel Rodrigo Lameira, CISM Board of Directors Member and Official CISM Representative for this event, Colonel Nilton Rolim, President of the CISM Modern Pentathlon Sports Committee, and Colonel Mariusz Denkewicz, Chief of the Sports Department of CWZS.
It was a simple but emblematic ceremony because of the fulfilment of all protocols against COVID-19.
To close the day, the technical meeting for the Women's Individual Final, which will take place today, was held in the early evening in the presence of all participating nations.
The Women's Individual Final will also be broadcast live today on the event's Youtube Channel!
