MONTPELLIER (FRA) - The 12th World Military Lifesaving Championship, organized by the National Defense Sports Center (CNSD) under the auspices of CISM, will take place from May 17 to 25 in three key locations: Palavas, Montpellier, and Le Grau-du-Roi.

The last two cities will host the flat water and coastal events respectively, while Palavas has been selected for the opening and closing ceremonies of this global event.

Lifesaving sport combines aquatic and land-based events inspired by coastal and pool lifesaving challenges. The aim of these sports performances is to "rescue better and faster." The equipment used adheres to the standards of the International Life Saving Federation (ILS). This competition will gather 13 nations and nearly 125 athletes.

The opening ceremony of this competition will take place at the El Cordobés Arena on Saturday, May 18, starting at 6 PM, with free admission open to all.

The program includes a traditional parade of military athletes from around the world: Switzerland, Kuwait, Canada, Iran, Spain, Poland, Brazil, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, China, Italy, and France. The athletes will march in front of the public to the music played by the Palavas Harmony Orchestra, led by Michaël Bégot.

Following the opening speech, the ceremony celebrating "friendship through sport," the CISM's motto, will continue with an equestrian show by Mr. Nicart titled Art and Horse. An exceptional aerial surprise will be performed by three parachutists who, weather permitting, will land in the arena.

Additionally, note that on Friday, May 24 at 6 PM, the closing ceremony will also take place at the El Cordobés Arena, celebrating the competition week with a colorful finale: a fireworks display at 10 PM on the Town Hall beach.
