LUCERNE (SUI) – The 5th Military World Winter Games 2025 will take place across multiple venues, with the alpine disciplines hosted in the renowned Engelberg-Titlis region. A strong emphasis has been placed on sustainability throughout the planning process: rather than constructing new facilities, the organizers prioritized utilizing existing infrastructure to minimize the event’s ecological footprint.
Engelberg-Titlis has long been an internationally recognized winter tourism destination, attracting a significant number of visitors each year. The region continues to evolve with the TITLIS project, which includes the renovation of the iconic Titlis Tower and the construction of a state-of-the-art mountain station in collaboration with world-renowned architects Herzog & de Meuron. These developments further enhance the area’s appeal while maintaining a strong commitment to sustainability.
Norbert Patt, CEO of Titlis Bergbahnen, is well-versed in managing large-scale projects and highlights the seamless collaboration with the military. “Working with the army over the past three years has been both exciting and efficient. We are well-prepared for an event of this scale and have the necessary expertise to ensure its success,” Patt explains. Titlis Bergbahnen assigned two dedicated project managers to coordinate operations, benefiting from a well-established network of regional partners.
The Swiss Armed Forces also play a key role in the event’s success, providing essential logistical support. “The military brings exceptional manpower and expertise, ensuring that everything runs smoothly. Their strengths in logistics and planning are particularly valuable in an event of this magnitude,” Patt adds.
The 5th Military World Winter Games 2025 serve as a model for sustainable and efficient event management, demonstrating how major international sporting competitions can be successfully executed using existing resources and expertise. Engelberg-Titlis has reaffirmed its status as a world-class winter sports destination—not only for tourism but also for elite sporting events.
