SALZBURG (AUT) - After a very intense first session, the second session of the CISM Board of Directors Meeting 2022/1 was held today at the Hotel Königgut in Salzburg, Austria.
The day started with the main event of the day, the definition of the candidate for the position of Secretary General by the CISM Board of Directors. The Board of Directors Members had to choose between Colonel Dorah Mamby Koita from Guinea, current CISM Secretary General, and Navy Captain Roberto Recchia from Italy, former Chief of Delegation of Italy to CISM between 2018 and 2021. At the end of the interviews, Navy Captain Roberto Recchia was selected to be presented as the BoD candidate for the position of Secretary General at the General Assembly to be held in Lima, Peru, in May 2022.µ
Lieutenant-Colonel Jan Van den Dool, CISM Sports Director, then resumed his presentation from the previous day by briefing the members of the Board of Directors on CISM's sports policy and presenting numerous Decision and Information Files relating to the development of sports within CISM.
The last presentation was made by Colonel Joseph Bakari, CISM Games Director, who presented all the news related to the future organization of the different CISM Games.
The second and last session of the Board of Directors Meeting 2022 ended with the Closing Address of the CISM President Brigadier-General Hervé Piccirillo who thanked all the participants for their involvement and their work during this two-day meeting in Salzburg.
The meeting then officially ended with the Closing Ceremony of the event which took place in the facilities of the Military Camp Schwarzenberg with the Marching Band Salzburg Territorial Command.
The Closing Ceremony took place in presence of the CISM President Brigadier-General Hervé Piccirillo, CISM Board of Directors Members in attendance, CISM Secretary General Colonel Dorah Mamby Koita, Brigadier-General Gernot Gasser, Commanding Officer of the Burgenland Territorial Command and Chief of Delegation of Austria to CISM, CISM General Secretariat’s members as well as representatives of the Austrian Delegation to CISM and members of the Organization Committee.
During this ceremony, the CISM President Brigadier-General Hervé Piccirillo awarded the CISM Star of Sports Merit (grade Officer) to WOI Karl Pavlis, a legendary Austrian military athlete and awarded 6 other Austrian military with the CISM Star of Sports Merit and the CISM Order of Merit.
The CISM President Brigadier-General Piccirillo also took the floor for his closing speech: “The BoD Members have taken important and sensitive decisions for the good and the future of CISM. It was able to assume its responsibilities due to its solid foundations based on its history but above all due to its military values: friendship, solidarity, resilience. These singular values are the heart of our military organization.”
He also added: “These BoD was an important meeting with the recommendation to the next GA of our upcoming 4 years mandate General Secretary. On that purpose, I would like to congratulate Navy Captain Roberto Recchia for his involvement and his vision for CISM. I would also like to warmly thank Colonel Mamby Dorah Koita for his investment and his devotion to CISM. He will stay a father of our organization and I let you know that CISM will forever stay your home”.
“The work achieved during this BoD also showed our common willingness to support the CISM’s goals and missions because CISM contributes to security and peace in the world. Our collective responsibility is to reach this ideal. To conclude, I would like to thank again the Austrian Delegation to CISM and the CISM General Secretariat for organizing this BoD meeting in Salzburg”, concluded the CISM President.
The CISM President then handed over the CISM Flag to Colonel Leonardo Olivieira as the next CISM BoD Meeting will be organized by the Peruvian Delegation to CISM on the American continent.
Brigadier-General Hervé Piccirillo finally declared the first Board of Directors Meeting of 2022 closed.
