BRUSSELS (BEL) - Lieutenant-General Frances Allen, Member of the CISM BoD and Canada's representative at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, became Vice-Chief of the Defense Staff on Tuesday, replacing Quebec Lieutenant-General Mike Rouleau.
Frances Allen, the second woman to reach the rank of lieutenant-general in the Canadian Armed Forces, has been Canada's military representative at NATO headquarters in Brussels since last summer. As Vice-Chief of the Defense Staff, she will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Canadian Armed Forces.
The Lieutenant-General was considered a possible candidate to succeed Mr. Vance as Canada's first female Chief of the Defense Staff.
Ms. Allen replaces Lieutenant-General Mike Rouleau, who has been appointed in a new role as Strategic Advisor to the current Acting Chief of the Defense Staff, Lieutenant-General Wayne Eyre.
At a press conference, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he was very pleased that a strong woman has been appointed Vice-Chief of the Defense Staff.
CISM would like to congratulate Lieutenant-General Frances Allen on this promotion and wishes her all the success in her new position.
