54th WMC Sailing – Piraeus (GRE) – Closing Ceremony

 

 

PIRAEUS (GRE) -Deputy Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, Vice Admiral Fragkiskos Leloudas HN, represented General Konstantinos Floros, Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, at the closing ceremony of the 54th CISM World Military Sailing Championship. The ceremony, held at the Yacht Club of Greece in Piraeus, marked the conclusion of the championship, which took place in Greece from June 7th to June 15th, 2023.

 

 

The successful hosting of the CISM World Military Sailing Championship in Greece for the second time, following the event in 1962, highlights the prominent position of the Greek Delegation to CISM and our nation as a whole in international military sports. This accomplishment underscores the significant role played by the Supreme Sports Council of the Hellenic Armed Forces in promoting similar events and upholding the ideals and values of Olympism.

 

The Hellenic Armed Forces Sailing team participated in the championship with a five-member crew, competing in the Platu-25 class boats. They secured the second position among the nine participating countries, with Brazil and Italy claiming the first and third spots, respectively. The Danish team was honored with the "Fair Play" Trophy.

 

 

Among the dignitaries present at the closing ceremony were:

 

  • Mr. Stavros Melas, the Regional Councilor of the Attica Region, representing the Regional Governor of Attica, Mr. Georgios Patoulis.
  • Mr. Shutenko Sergii, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Greece.
  • Major General Evangelos Oikonomou, the B Brunch Director of the Hellenic Air Force General Staff, representing Lieutenant General Themistoklis Bourolias, Chief of the Hellenic Air Force General Staff.
  • Brigadier General Efthymios Giannakakis, the Director of the Engineering Department of the Hellenic Army General Staff, representing Lieutenant General Angelos Choudeloudis, Chief of the Army General Staff.
  • Commodore Charalambos Gavalas, the Deputy Commander of the Hellenic Naval Academy, representing Vice Admiral Ioannis Drimousis, Chief of the Navy General Staff.

 

 

  • Major General Emmanouιl Dourvetakis, representing Lieutenant General Lazaros Mavropoulos, Chief of the Hellenic Police Force.
  • Rear Admiral Nikolaos Polemis, representing the Chief of the Hellenic Coast Guard, Vice Admiral Georgios Alexandrakis.
  • Fire Brigadier General Nikolaos Balsis, representing Lieutenant General Georgios Pournaras, Chief of the Fire Brigade.
  • Mrs. Agi Kasoumi, representing the Secretary General of Sports, Mr. Georgios Mavrotas.
  • Mr. Stavros Voidonikolas, Deputy Governor of the Islands of the Attica region.
  • Mrs. Andriana Zarakeli, Deputy Mayor of Piraeus.

 

 

  • Navy Captain Spyridon Andriopoulos HN, Chief of the Greek Delegation to CISM and Director of the Supreme Sports Council of the Hellenic Armed Forces.
  • Navy Captain Roberto Recchia, CISM Secretary General, and Navy Captain Jorge Flethes, President of the CISM Sailing Committee (PCSC Sailing), serving as the Official CISM Representative (OCR).
