CISM elevates wrestling programs with key initiatives in Kazakhstan

ALMATY (KAZ) - CISM has long recognized wrestling as a cornerstone of athletic tradition, both historically and within its modern sports programs. In recent years, wrestling has garnered increased attention and participation among CISM member nations, becoming a focal point for both competitive and developmental initiatives.

Reflecting this commitment, Major Nasser Hasani, the President of the CISM Wrestling Committee, conducted a pivotal visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan from June 10 to June 14, 2024. This visit, arranged in coordination with the Iranian delegation and at the official invitation of the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan, aimed to foster collaboration and expand wrestling's footprint within CISM.

During the visit, Major Hasani inspected the sports facilities and equipment of the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan, with a particular focus on preparations for the 2025 Military Challenge of Kazakh kuresi wrestling. This championship is expected to attract significant participation from CISM member nations, further enhancing the sport’s profile and engagement across the military sports community.

In alignment with CISM's developmental objectives, plans to establish the CISM International Wrestling Academy at the sports training center in Almaty were formalized. This academy is envisioned as a central hub for training and development, offering ongoing support to wrestling athletes and coaches, and fostering a continuous exchange of knowledge and skills.

Furthermore, to elevate the standards of wrestling officiating and coaching, international training courses for trainers and referees will be launched. These courses are designed to enhance the quality and consistency of wrestling instruction and officiating across member countries, ensuring that all participants adhere to high standards of excellence and fairness.

Major Hasani also engaged in strategic meetings with high-level Kazakh authorities, including the Deputy Minister of Defense, the head of the Sports Committee of the Ministry of Defense, and the Kazakh kuresi Wrestling Federation. These discussions covered the promotion and development of wrestling within CISM, the organization of the 2025 Kazakh kuresi Wrestling competition, and other potential future collaborations.

The visit included comprehensive assessments of the facilities designated for future Kazakh kuresi wrestling competitions, as well as the accommodations planned for athletes and officials. These evaluations confirmed that the host's preparations are satisfactory and meet CISM's standards, ensuring a conducive environment for successful competitions and events.

In addition, discussions with Mr. Dolat Torlikhanov, President of the Asian Continental Wrestling Confederation, focused on providing technical and developmental assistance to Asian member countries of CISM. This collaboration aims to solidify the region's wrestling infrastructure, supporting the growth and development of the sport throughout Asia.

This strategic visit underscores CISM's dedication to fostering wrestling as a key sport within its framework. By leveraging the capabilities and resources of member countries like Kazakhstan, CISM aims to enhance the sport's global reach and impact.
