TOKYO (FRA) - All things come in threes ! As the saying goes, after two great days for our military athletes, 26 July was another successful day for CISM athletes who took one olypmic title, six silver medals and three bronze medals at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo!

The second Olympic Title for a military athlete at the Tokyo Olympic Games was won by 1st Lieutenant Amber English (USA) who won the gold medal in the women's skeet shooting competition at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, breaking an Olympic record with 56 shots. Italian Corporal Diana Bacosi finished on the second place of the Skeet Women podium, just one point behind the winner of the day, American Amber English. Four other military athletes also made the Top 10 of this competition: Isarapa Imprasertsuk (THA - 4th place), NCO Nadine Messerschmidt (GER- 5th place), Warrant Officer Natalia Vinogradova (RUS- 6th place) and Private First-Class Lucie Anastassiou (FRA - 9th place).

The Swiss Army is also well represented with two athletes in the Top 4 of the Mountain-Bike competitions! Private First-Class Mathias Flückiger took the silver medal, finishing 20 seconds behind the British Olympic Champion Thomas Pidcock, while his compatriot Nino Schurter was 8 seconds behind the bronze medal and finished fourth.

In swimming, Italian Corporal Lorenzo Zazzeri, the third relayist for the Italian team, clocked a superb time of 47.31 to help his team take second place in the 4x100m Freestyle Swimming Men behind the untouchable Americans. China's Zhang Yufei, a multi-medalist in Wuhan 2019, also shone in the Tokyo pools by winning an Olympic silver medal in the 100m Butterfly Women finishing 5 hundredths behind Canada's Macneil, the gold medalist.

Our military fencers also wore the CISM colours high: Corporal Daniele Garozzo (ITA) lost in the final of the Foil Individual Men to Ka Long Cheung (HKG) and won a superb silver medal, ahead of Corporal Enzo Lefort (FRA), who won the bronze medal. Two other Italians, Corporal Alessio Foconi (9th) and Corporal Andrea Cassara (10th) completed the top 10.

Russian Captain Sofya Velikaya, multiple medalist at the CISM WMC, also took the silver medal after losing to her compatriot Pozdniakova 15-11 in the final of the women's individual Sabre competition. Maréchal des Logis Manon Brunet (FRA) took the third place, while Jiarui Qian (China) and Sergeant Olga Nikitina (RUS) finished 6th and 7th respectively.

After winning two bronze medals at the 2019 CISM Military World Summer Games in Wuhan (Men's Platform and Synchronized Platform), the Russian Warrant Officer Aleksandr Bondar has won another bronze medal in the Men's Synchronized 10m Platform competition with his teammate Minibaev.
The final bronze medal of the day went to China's Zou Jingyuan (gold medal in the men's team, pommel horse and parallel bars events in Wuhan 2019) and Xiao Ruoteng (gold medal in the men's team, men's all-around, horinzontal bar events and silver medal in the floor exercise, pommel horse and parallel bars events in Wuhan 2019) with their third place in the men’s team event.

Other performances of the day by our military athletes include the 4th place of Corporal Maarten Van Riel (BEL - Men's Individual - Triathlon), the 5th places of Bernadette Cynthia Szocs (ROU -Mixed Double - Table Tennis) and Sergeant Milena Titoneli Guimarães (BRA - Women's -67kg - Taekwondo), the 6th places of Corporal Tammaro Cassandro (ITA - Skeet Men - Shooting) Wuhan 2019 gold medallist Yan Zibei (CHN - 100m Breaststroke Men - Swimming), the Swiss Private Christian Baumann, Private First Class Pablo Braegger, Private Benjamin Gischard and Private Eddy Yusof (Men's team - Artistic Gymnastics), the 7th places of JuliaKowalczyk (POL - Women's -57kg - Judo) and Lieutenant Vladislav Grinev (RUS - 4x100m Freestyle Relay Men - Swimming) as well as the 8th places of 3rd Sergeant Pedro Henrique Silva Spajari (BRA - 4x100m Freestyle Relay Men - Swimming) and archers Pravin Ramesh Jadhav and Rarundeep Rai, who also competed in Wuhan in 2019 (IND - Men's Team - Archery).
