PARIS (FRA) – After the technical meeting of the 40th WMC Judo held in the morning of October 29 in presence of Colonel Dirk Schwede, BoD Member and Official CISM Representative of the event, Brigadier-General Farshad Najafipour, PCSC Judo, and Colonel Stefan Marginean, Head of the IJF Military Commission, the Opening Ceremony took place yesterday at the Square de la Resistance in the afternoon. It was a rainy day in Brétigny-sur-Orge, France, but it was a happy day as the opening ceremony of the championship was held in presence of Colonel Hervé Piccirillo, CISM President; Colonel Dirk Schwede, BoD Member and Official CISM Representative of the event; Brigadier-General Arnaud Dupuy de La Grand’Rive, Chief of Delegation of France to CISM; Brigadier-General Farshad Najafipour, PCSC Judo; Colonel Stefan Marginean, Head of the IJF Military Commission; the Chiefs of Mission and delegates of the participating Member Nations, as well as international and local high authorities.
The CISM President Colonel Hervé Piccirillo took the floor to welcome the participants: “I’m very happy to see you again and to be able to smile and to see your smiles on your faces and I would like to present my sincere thanks to the French Delegation to CISM, to the French Federation of Judo and to city of Brétigny-sur-Orge for organizing this amazing event”.
He also added: “Judo is a military sport and a part of the training of every soldier. It’s a lifestyle with strong military values: commitment, warrior spirit and respect. CISM has always paid attention to its development!”
“There is also another topic that unites us: soldiers injured in the exercise of their duty. CISM has already taken para-sport into account for several years. Here in Brétigny, you have already won the fraternity’s award with the participation of disabled athletes, a first in the history of a world military judo championship”, added the CISM President.
As a conclusion, he wished all the participants the best for this competition!
Brigadier-General Arnaud Dupuy de La Grand’Rive, Chief of Delegation of France to CISM, also took the floor during the ceremony: “It is with great pleasure that I welcome you as Commander of the National Defence Sports Centre and Chief of the French Delegation to CISM for this 49th WMC Judo. The CNSD and our invaluable supporters from the Essonne Judo Committee as well as our partners are fully committed to ensuring that this championship takes place in the best possible conditions. Give your best and may the best win!”.
