Sri Lanka Ambassador to Belgium visits CISM Headquarters in Brussels

BRUSSELS (BEL) - On June 28, 2024, His Excellency Chandana Weerasena, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Belgium, visited the CISM in Brussels. This visit was a significant step in enhancing the collaboration between the Sri Lankan delegation and the CISM community, focusing on shared goals and upcoming events.

 

Upon arrival, Ambassador Weerasena was warmly received by CISM Secretary General Navy Captain Roberto Recchia, alongside other CISM staff members. The welcoming reception was a testament to the strong and growing relationship between the CISM and Sri Lanka.

The highlight of the visit was a formal meeting where key discussions took place. In attendance were the CISM Secretary General Navy Captain Roberto Recchia, Ambassador Chandana Weerasena, Ms. Thavishya Dakshini Mullegamgoda, Minister Commercial of the Sri Lanka Embassy in Belgium, several CISM Directors, and Deputy Sports Director & CSC Manager Commander Biyagamage Dimuthu Samira Thissera.

 

The primary focus of the meeting was on the 80th CISM General Assembly and Congress, scheduled to be hosted by the Sri Lankan Delegation to CISM in 2025. The discussions centered around organizational strategies, logistical preparations, and sharing of best practices to ensure a successful and impactful event. This upcoming General Assembly and Congress represent a major milestone for the Sri Lankan delegation, providing an opportunity to showcase their commitment to military sports and international cooperation.

Following the productive discussions, the visit concluded with a ceremonial gift exchange between Ambassador Weerasena and the CISM Secretary General. This gesture symbolized the mutual respect and goodwill between the Sri Lankan delegation and the CISM. Ambassador Weerasena also signed the visitor’s book at CISM Headquarters, leaving a personal note that marks this significant visit.

 

This visit not only reinforced the existing relationship between Sri Lanka and the CISM but also emphasized the collaborative efforts towards promoting military sports on a global scale. The shared goals and future projects discussed during the visit set the stage for continued cooperation and success.
