Outstanding show by military athletes on fifth day of Paris Olympics

PARIS (FRA) - On the fifth day of medal events at the Paris 2024 Olympics, military athletes from CISM member nations showcased their remarkable talents, earning several podium finishes and gold medals.

 

In rowing, the Italian team of Corporals Luca Chiumento, Luca Rambaldi, Andrea Panizza, and Giacomo Gentili secured a silver medal in the Men's Quadruple Scull with a total time of 5:44.40, just 2.40 seconds behind the gold-medalist Netherlands. Meanwhile, the Swiss team, including Private Dominic Condrau, Private Lange Maurin and Private Scott Bärlocher, finished sixth.

In the Women's Quadruple Sculls, the Swiss team, including Private Fabienne Schweizer and Private Pascale Walker, finished fourth, while the Ukrainian team of OR-8’s Yevheniia Dovhodko, Kateryna Dudchenko, Daryna Verkhogliad and Anastasiia Kozhenkova, secured fifth place.

 

The Canoe Slalom Women's Canoe Single saw Private Alena Marx from Switzerland finishing in eighth place with a time of 114.61, 13.55 seconds behind the gold medalist from Australia, Jessica Fox.

 

In Cycling BMX Freestyle, Aviateur Laury Perez from France finished ninth in the Women's Park event, while Sergent Anthony Jeanjean from France earned a bronze medal in the Men's Park event with a score of 93.76, narrowly missing the gold, which went to Argentina's Jose Torres Gil.

In Artistic Gymnastics, OF-3 Oleg Verniaiev from Ukraine finished eighth in the Men's All-Around competition with a total score of 84.399, 2.433 points shy of the gold medalist from Japan, Shinnosuke Oka.

 

In Judo, OR-4 Michaela Polleres from Austria secured a bronze medal in the Women’s -70 kg category with a victory against Spain's Ai Tsunoda Roustant.

In Shooting Trap Women, Corporal Silvana Maria Stanco from Italy won a silver medal, scoring 40 points, 5 points behind the gold medalist from Guatemala, Adriana Ruano Oliva.

 

In Triathlon, Matelot Emma Lombardi from France finished fourth in the Women's Individual, while Sergent Léo Bergere from France earned a bronze medal in the Men's Individual, closely followed by his compatriot Pierre Le Corre, who finished fourth.

 

In swimming, Corporal Alberto Razzetti from Italy finished eighth in the Men's 200m Butterfly with a time of 1:54.85, 3.64 seconds behind the French gold medalist Léon Marchand. Sergeant Beatriz Pimentel Dizzoti from Brazil finished seventh in the Women's 1500m Freestyle.

The highlight of the day was the Fencing Men's Sabre Team event, where Corporal Do Gyeong Dong and his South Korean teammates clinched the gold medal by defeating Hungary 45-41. Additionally, the Italian team, including Corporals Michele Gallo and Luigi Samele, finished in fifth place.
