Impressive day 6 for military athletes at Paris Olympics

PARIS (FRA) - On the sixth day of medal events at the Paris 2024 Olympics, military athletes from CISM member nations earned commendable finishes, contributing to the medal tally for their respective countries.

 

In the Men's 20km Race Walk, Sergeant Caio Oliveira de Sena Bonfim of Brazil delivered a stellar performance, securing the silver medal with a total time of 1:19:09, just 0.14 seconds behind gold medallist Brian Daniel Pintado of Ecuador.

Romanian 2nd Lieutenant Simona Gianina Radiș, alongside her teammate Ancuta Bodnar, claimed the silver medal in the Women's Double Sculls rowing event with a time of 6:50.69, narrowly missing the gold to the New Zealand team.

 

Meanwhile, Caporal Elodie Ravera-Scaramozzino of France, with teammate Emma Lunatti, finished fifth in the same event with a time of 6:57.35.

 

In the Men's Four rowing event, Italy's Corporal Matteo Lodo and Corporal Giovanni Abagnale, along with their teammates Giuseppe Vicino and Nicholas Kohl, finished just off the podium in fourth place with a time of 5:55.07.

A standout performance came from Corporal Giovanni De Gennaro of Italy in the Men's Kayak Single event, where he captured the gold medal with a total time of 88.22, finishing 0.20 seconds ahead of the silver medallist from France, Titouan Castryck.

 

The Italian Women's Foil Team, featuring Corporal Arianna Errigo and Corporal Francesca Palumbo, secured a silver medal after a hard-fought final against the USA, ending with a score of 39-45. In the same event, French athletes Sergent Ysaora Thibus and Maréchal des Logis Pauline Ranvier, along with their teammates, finished in fifth place.

Corporal Alice Bellandi of Italy achieved gold in the Women's -78 kg Judo category, defeating Inbar Lanir of Israel with an Ippon in the final. In the Men's -100 kg Judo, Private Daniel Eich of Switzerland placed fifth, missing out on the bronze medal against Peter Paltchik of Israel by a Waza-Ari.

 

Private First Class Roman Mityukov of Switzerland secured a bronze medal in the Men's 200m Backstroke swimming event with a time of 1:54.85, just 0.59 seconds shy of gold medallist Hubert Kos from Hungary.

The Brazilian Women's 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay team, including Sergeants Maria Fernanda de Oliveira da Silva Costa, Maria Paula Magabeira Heitmann, Gabrielle Gonçalves Roncatto, and Stephanie Balduccini, finished seventh with a time of 7:52.90.

 

In the Men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions event, OF-2 Serhii Kulish of Ukraine earned a silver medal with a total of 461.3 points, following closely behind the Chinese gold medallist Yukun Liu, who scored 463.6 points.

The military athletes from CISM member nations demonstrated their exceptional skills and competitive spirit, contributing to their countries' success and highlighting the strong presence of military competitors in the Olympic
