72nd Congress and General Assembly in Athens, Greece – Day 1
ATHENS (GRE) - Today, 2nd April 2017, the 72nd Congress and General Assembly started in Athens (GRE) with a touring around Acropolis Rock and Museum for the CISM Authorities, the Board of Directors Members and the Presidents of CISM Sports Committees. Then in the afternoon, the second meeting of the CISM Board of Directors in 2017 took place in the Titania Hotel in the framework of the 72nd CISM Congress and General Assembly that will take place from 2nd to 8th May 2017.
The meeting started with the welcome addresses of Colonel Abdulhakeem Alshino, CISM President and Navy Captain Spyridon Andriopoulos, Chief of Delegation of Greece to CISM and Organizer of the event.
The CISM President Colonel Abdulhakeem Alshino then took the floor with his President’s report followed by the CISM Secretary General Colonel Dorah Mamby report. As usual, the Vice-Presidents in attendance had also the opportunity to introduce to the BoD member their activity report related to their continental organization. Colonel B.A.M. Walter Van Velthoven then presented the Finances report.
Colonel Dieter Weigold updated the board with the situation of the CISM Strategic and Business Plan immediately followed by the report of the CISM Sports Commission by its President Lieutenant-Colonel Walter Borghino. The CISM Sports Director Colonel Carlos Eduardo also updated the BoD with the situation of the CISM Sports Calendar 2017-2020 as well as the progress report of the 3rd CISM World Cadet Games that will take place in Indonesia in 2018.
Finally, the BoD members discussed some important issues related to the General Assembly 2017 (participation, program, speakers) as well as the situation of the General Assembly 2018. The next Board of Directors Meeting 2017/3 in Wuhan, 2018/1 in Nice and 2018/3 were also addressed.
The meeting ended with some discussions about the CISM Regulations.
The program for tomorrow, 3rd May 2017, will be the following: the PCSC Meeting will take place from 8.30 until 12.30 while the Opening Press Conference and the Newcomers Seminar will be held in the afternoon. The day will end with the Opening Ceremony and the Opening Cocktail in the marvelous Zappeion Hall from 18.30 to 20.30.
