France wins the first CISM Women's World Football Cup

RENNES – The final of the first CISM Women's World Football Cup took place on June 5, 2016. As in the CISM 2015 Summer Games in Mungyeong, a vengeful France was facing Brazil in the final. Many spectators attended the game and we could note the presence of numerous civil and military authorities as well as Eugénie Le Sommer, godmother of the competition and emblematic player of the France National Team and Philippe Bergeroo, manager of the French Women National Team. Before the kickoff, a tribute was paid to the death of a French submariner and a minute of silence was observed in tribute to the victims of the recent bomb attacks in France and Belgium.

After only 4 minutes in the game, Julie Machart scored the first goal for the Blues. 3 minutes later, Brazil equalized but the goal was eventually canceled for a blatant offside. Halftime was whistled and after 45 minutes, France was leading the game (1-0).

In second half, the Brazilians had several opportunities but they failed to materialize. And it was even France who doubled their advantage via Babinga (2-0) 30 minutes before the end of the game. The reaction of the Brazilian was swift and less than a minute later, Brazil scored their first goal of the final (2-1). The tension was at its peak both on the field and in the stands!

Despite some Brazilian attempts, the French team resisted and, after several minutes of extra time, the referee blew the final whistle of the game. France just won the first CISM Women's World Football Cup

In the game for the bronze medal, South Korea faced Cameroon. The match was spectacular and eventful (3-3). So the game went to penalty kicks. After two misses from Cameroon, South Korea won the penalty shootout and therefore finished on the third step of the podium.

The matches for the 5th and 7th place took place the day before in the modern Chantepie Stadium: Netherlands took the 5th place by defeating Germany (2-1) while the USA ranked seventh after beating Canada 4-3 in overtime.

The Closing Ceremony of the 1st CISM Women's World Football Cup took place in the Vannes Stadium and was attended by the Secretary General of CISM, Colonel Dorah Mamby Koita, the official CISM representative for this competition, General Biro Conde, the General Christophe de Saint Chamas representing the French army and many high civil authorities of Brittany.

Several awards were also distributed: Korean Kim Yo-Yin (Best goalkeeper), Agnes Nkada from Cameroon (top striker of the tournament), United States (Fair- Play trophy) and Laura Bourgoin from France (best player of the competition). Referees are also rewarded by the French authorities for their excellent performance.

To conclude the evening, all the delegations finally met in a cocktail.

Thank you to France for this wonderful organization!!
