LEUVEN (BEL) - The 2025 edition of the International Day of Military Sport Day was successfully held on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Quartier de Hemptinne in Leuven. Jointly organized by the CISM Headquarters, the Belgian Delegation to CISM, and the Belgian Defence, the event brought together 350 military personnel and civilians in a celebration of sport, camaraderie, and peace.

Since its inception in 2006 as the CISM Day Run, the event has been dedicated to promoting sports within a military framework while fostering collaboration with international sports organizations, national Olympic committees, and defense ministries. Over the years, it has evolved to emphasize CISM’s commitment to peace, culminating in its current form as the International Military Sports Day.

The annual event allows CISM delegations worldwide to organize and promote their own sporting activities, reinforcing the organization’s motto: "Friendship through Sport."

Building on the success of previous editions held in Leopoldsburg, the 2025 International Military Sports Day featured a diverse program designed to engage participants of all levels. The event included an 8 km or 10 km run starting at 10:30 AM, as well as an 8 km walk that began at 10:00 AM, allowing participants to challenge themselves at their own pace. A Functional Fitness workshop provided a high-intensity training session to push physical limits, while a climbing demonstration and initiation gave attendees the opportunity to experience this thrilling sport. The orienteering initiation introduced participants to this strategic and engaging discipline. The day concluded with a convivial moment featuring a shared spaghetti meal to foster camaraderie among attendees.

A highlight of the event was the presence of Belgium’s elite military athletes, inspiring participants with their achievements. Alessia Corrao, Belgian Judo Champion in 2023 and 2024, Marten Van Riel, winner of three stages and overall champion of the 2024 T100 Triathlon World Tour, and Erwin Vanderplancke, a member of the Belgian national triathlon team, all took part in the event, showcasing their dedication and skill.
