ABUJA (NIG) – During the visit of the CISM President General Hervé Piccirillo at Nigerian Army Guards Brigade Headquarters in Abuja, the Commander of the Nigerian Army Guards Brigade, Brigadier General Mohammed Takuti Usman, reiterated the commitment of the brigade to ensure the security and defense of the CISM and OSMA (Organization of Military Sports in Africa) sporting activities in the federal capital, assuring that the troops of the brigade will be proactive in ensuring the safety of all athletes, foreigners and citizens.
Brigadier General Usman reiterated this assurance during his meeting with Brigadier General Herve Piccirillo, CISM President, accompanied by Major Delphine Viard, Chief of Staff to the CISM President and other members of OSMA led by its President Major General Abdullahi Maikano, in his office at the Aguyi Ironsi Cantonment, Asokoro Abuja on Wednesday, February 20, 2022.
Commander Usman assured General Piccirillo of full support in terms of security and sports facilities at the Brigade Headquarters for all OSMA Games.
"The 1st CDS/OSMA Sahel Games were held inside Aguyi Ironsi Cantonment, Asokoro Abuja and our troops provided maximum security to all participants," he said.
The CISM President thanked Brigadier General Mohammed Takuti Usman, for fulfilling his constitutional obligations in a professional manner during the last Sahel Games in Nigeria.
General Piriccillo said that CISM contributes to the security of the world through sport, which also explains the motto of his organization which is "Friendship through Sport".
Major General Abdullahi Maikano, Vice President Africa of CISM, also took the floor to commend Brigadier General Mohammed Takuti Usman for maintaining a professional level in the Guards Brigade.
General Abdullahi Maikano, who served for 8 years in the Guards Brigade as a captain, said his first Sahel Games was in line with the promise he made during his campaign to become OSMA president.
He also recommended that all officers learn another international language such as French or English to better understand the people and communities during their years of deployment.
The highlight of the visit was the exchange of souvenirs and a tour of all the sports facilities led by Lt. The event was also attended by some members of the Nigerian Army Guards Brigade and OSMA/CISM leadership.
In addition to the above, the CISM President was also accompanied on the visit by the Chief of Staff of Guards Brigade, Colonel OP Oyegoke; OSMA Coordinator and Secretary, Wing Commander Ado Mohammed; Corps Commander Funmi Fapectus; Group Captain Garuba; and Ms. Olayemi Esan, OSMA Media Officer in Nigeria, and others.
