CISM President met with the Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff

ABUJA (NIG) - CISM President Brigadier General Herve Piccirillo and OSMA President and CISM VP Africa Major General Maikano Abdullahi were received on Tuesday by the Chief of Defence Training and Operations (CDTOPS) Major General Adeyemi Yekini, representing the Chief of Defence Staff General Lucky Irabor at the Defence Headquarters facilities in Abuja.

General Lucky Irabor, who was represented by Major General Adeyemi Yekini, Chief of Defence Training and Operations (CDTOPS), stressed that that military sports activities are aimed at promoting synergy through the interaction of military sports as well as cementing African brotherhood.

He also highlighted the fact that the Nigerian Armed Forces have included sports activities in their quarterly events and activities, such as the CISM International Day of Military Sports, DHQ Abuja Barracks Youth Sports Championship, Armed Forces Security Agencies Combat Race, Tug of War and Golf Competition, among others.

Earlier in his speech, the CISM President thanked the Chief of Defence Staff for his support, especially during the last CDS Sahel Games in Nigeria, which hosted 14 African countries.

In his speech, the OSMA President Major General Maikano Abdullahi also said: "Building friendship and better understanding through sport between countries in the region is not only creative but very innovative.

He thanked the Chief of Defence Staff for his unwavering support during and after the first CDS Sahel Games in Abuja in 2021.

The CISM President was accompanied by the OSMA president, who is also CISM Vice President for Africa, Major General Maikano Abdullahi; Chief of Defence Administration, Rear Amiral MB Nagenu; CDS Director of Sports, Air Vice Marshal PD Masiyer; Director of CDS Information : Group Captain ET Iheoma; OSMA coordinator and Secretary, Wing Commander Ado Mohammed; Lieutenant Commander Funmi Fapectus; Group Captain Garuba; Miss Olayemi Esan, OSMA media partner in Nigeria; and Major Delphine Viard, Chief of Cabinet of the CISM President.
