General Piccirillo visits the Nigerian Army Resource Center (NARC) and its museum

ABUJA (NIG) - Brigadier General Hervé Piccirillo, CISM President, and Major General Maikano Abdullahi, OSMA President and CISM Vice President Africa, were received by Major General AT Famadewa, Deputy Director General of the Nigerian Army Resource Center (NARC), representing the NARC Director General Major General Garba Ayodeji Wahab (Rtd). The Nigerian Army Resource Center aims to offer creative decision-making ideas and systematic frameworks while helping to bridge important strategic and operational capacity gaps in providing workable practical solutions to pertinent national defence and security issues. On this occasion, the CISM President visited the Nigerian Armed Forces Museum and signed the guest books of the NARC and the Museum.

During his visit, the CISM President had the opportunity to exchange with the NARC Director of research Professor CBN Ogbobu, the Director of Human Resources Development Brigadier General UM Bello, the Director of Information and Communication Technology Brigadier General JA Lawoyin, the Director of Finance Brigadier General Garba Sadiq Muhammed and the Director of Net Assessment and Future Plans Brigadier General UM Aliyu.

 

During the visit, the OSMA President declared that sports can be used to promote peace in the armed forces of Nigeria, Africa and the world at large.

 

General Piccirillo explained that CISM is an old Institution which was created in 1948 with 5 countries but has grown to be the largest with about 140 countries who are members and have common interests adding that the main purpose of establishing CISM is to contribute to the security of the world through Sports which also explains the motto of the organisation to mean “Friendship through Sports”.

CISM President also declared that CISM is focused on team spirit, brotherhood and military core values.

 

Responding, the Acting Director General said that NARC is ready and prepared to collaborate with OSMA/CISM because he believes that sports is a unifying factor that unites every race, religion and tribe.

 

He also assured them that NARC is ready to support the armed forces and the Nigerian Army in particular in areas of capacity development and development of ideas.

Major General Famadewa noted that every sports man must be deciplined and that has been the core value of the armed forces of Nigeria and assured them of NARC’s support where necessary.

 

The OSMA President, CISM President and other delegates also visited the Nigerian Army Museum Centre to observe historical images and memorable items and information about the History of Nigerian Army.
The high point of the event was the exchange of souvenirs.
