DOHA (QAT) - The prestigious 24th World Military Equestrian Championship - Show Jumping began in grand style at the magnificent Longines Indoor Arena at Al Shaqab in Doha, Qatar. Under the slogan Friendship through Sport, the event is organized by the Qatar Military Sports Federation under the umbrella of CISM, in collaboration with Al Shaqab, a member of Qatar Foundation.
The Opening Ceremony was graced by the presence of CISM Secretary General Navy Captain Roberto Recchia, who joined officials, athletes, and distinguished guests in celebrating the spirit of camaraderie and excellence that defines this international championship. The event highlights Qatar's role as a leading global hub for sports and diplomacy, showcasing its ability to host world-class competitions.
The championship, which runs until November 30, features riders from 15 countries competing in both individual and team events. Participating nations include a lineup of seasoned athletes, each aiming to claim top honors in this unique competition governed by a points-collection system.
The event commenced on Wednesday with a thrilling round at a height of 120/125 cm, involving all riders from the participating teams. This opening day saw Captain Schumann-Raducanu Norbert from Romania clinch the top spot, followed closely by Qatar's own First Lieutenant Hamad Ali Al-Attiyah in second place, and Captain Mosquera Salgado Xavier Alejandro of Ecuador in third.
Day two of the competition, featuring an exhilarating Accumulator round, produced remarkable performances, especially from riders representing the Gulf and Europe. Sergeant Madian Said Hamed AlYusfi of Oman claimed first place, with First Lieutenant Saeed Almaazmi of the UAE and Primo Graduato Emanuele Addis of Italy securing second and third positions, respectively.
The tournament director, Major Khalid Hamad Al Attiyah, emphasized that the championship is being held in the Middle East for the first time at the world-renowned Longines Arena at Al Shaqab. Speaking on Tuesday, he commended the efforts of the organizing committee in ensuring seamless preparations for the competition, which included a technical meeting to outline the rules, draw lots for horses, and finalize arrangements.
The championship reflects CISM’s confidence in Qatar’s unparalleled organizational capabilities and its track record of hosting successful international events.
The championship will conclude on November 30 with two rounds at a height of 120/125 cm. Points accumulated over the event will determine the winners, with the first three places receiving their well-deserved crowns in the final ceremony.
