RIO DE JANEIRO (BRA) – The first day of competition at the 22nd World Military Equestrian Championship took place yesterday, 14 October, in the Main Arena. The competition will take place over 3 days with the individual final scheduled for Sunday 17 October.
Our 22 military athletes started at 11.30am on table C with a total of 12 obstacles and a height of 1.15m. Any bar that is knocked down results in penalties that are counted in the final score of the competition.
And it was Brazilian Lieutenant-Colonel Cláudio de Azevedo Goggia who came out on top, finishing with a total of 23 points ahead of Petty Officer Nicolas Maynard (FRA), second with a total of 21 points, while Russian Warrant Officer Anastasia Scherbakova finished third in the first day of competition.
In the team competition, the French team, composed of OR-8 Nicolas Maynard, OR-9 Benjamin Courtat and OR-9 Donatien Schauly, took the first place of the provisional ranking ahead of Chile (Captain Ricardo Jequier, Lieutenant Jorge Gonzales and Captain Nicolas Ibañez) and Bahrain (Corporal Saber Faraj, Warrant Officer Ahmed Ali and Sergeant Basel Al-Doseri).The second day of competition will take place today, October 15, from 11.30 local time.
