TOKYO (FRA) - With three days to go until the end of the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games, our military athletes were less prolific on 5 July with only one new Olympic title.
Warrant Officer Albert Batyrgaziev of Russia won his first Olympic gold medal by beating Duke Ragan (USA) in the final of the Men's Feather (52-57kg) category (Boxing).
Corporal Manfredi Rizza (ITA) put in an impressive performance and took the silver medal in the Men’s Kayak Single 200m event (Canoe Sprint) behind Hungary's Sando Totka.
In karate, Master Corporal OR4 Bettina Plank (Austria) won the bronze medal in the women's kumite -55kg event after being beaten by future Olympic champion Ivet Goranova (BUL).
Gold medallist in Wuhan 2019, Russian Lieutenant Artur Naifonov defeated Uzbekistan's Shapiev in the bronze medal match of the Men's Freestyle 86kg (Wrestling) category. In the same category, Private First-Class Stefan Reichmuth finished eighth.
Austrian OR4 - Master Corporal Jakob Schubert, gold medallist at the 2017 Sochi Military World Winter Games, won the bronze medal in the Men's Combined Sport Climbing event just 7 points behind Spain's Alberto Gines Lopez while Private Mickaël Mawem (FRA) finished fifth.
