TOKYO (FRA) - After the splendid Opening Ceremony of the 2021 Olympic Games held yesterday in Tokyo, the first finals started today in Road Cycling, Fencing, Weightlifting, Judo, Taekwondo, Shooting and Archery, and several CISM military athletes took the opportunity to showcase their skills.
The gold medal match of the Individual Women’s Epee Event was the scene of a remake of the final of the 7th CISM Military World Summer Games in Wuhan 2019 and pitted Yiwen Sun (CHN) against Lieutenant-Colonel Ana Maria Popescu with, in the end, an identical result (11-10) in favour of the Chinese Yiwen Sun, victorious at the end of a tough fight!
In Taekwondo, another gold medal with the victory of Corporal Vito Dell'Aquila (ITA) against the Tunisian Jendoubi in the final of the men's -58 kg. A superb reward and a great progression for Dell'Aquila who had taken the 5th place at the CISM Military World Summer Games 2019 in Wuhan.
We can report the magnificent grouping of our military athletes in the final of the 10m Air Rifle Women's Final (Shooting). Private First Class Nina Christen (SUI), gold and silver medallist at the 2016 and 2018 CISM World Military Shooting Championships, took third place in the final ahead of Private Jeanette Hegg Duestad (NOR), 2019 Military World Champion in Wuhan in 50m, who finished just outside of the podium.
In the other events of the day, we note the performances of Corporal Enrico Berre (ITA - Fencing), defeated in the quarter-finals of the individual Sabre Men’s competition, Sergeant Eric Gomes Takabakate (BRA - Judo - 1/8 final Men’s -60kg), Lieutenant Irina Dolgova (RUS - Judo - 1/8 final – Women’s 48kg) and the fifth place of Marshal of Logis Lisa Barbelin with her teammate Jean-Charles Valladont in the Mixed Team competition of Fencing.
