BRUSSELS (BEL) - As of yesterday, Brazilian Colonel Nilton Gomes Rolim Filho, formerly PCSC Modern Pentathlon between 2014 and 2023, has become the President of the International Military Sports Council and succeeds Colonel Dirk Schwede, CISM Acting President between 2022 and 2023.

On the first day of his mandate, Colonel Nilton Gomes Rolim Filho describes his experience in CISM, the challenges that await him and the objectives he has set for the next four years for the International Military Sports Council.

Can you tell us about your background in military sports and how it has influenced your vision of CISM ?

CISM President: "In 1994, I was introduced to CISM as a modern pentathlete. As a military member and athlete, I was deeply impacted by the competitive spirit within these championships. Since becoming PCSC Modern Pentathlon, I have focused on improving the level of the championships by putting the athletes first. Our main goal should always be to provide them with a great experience, such as competing in the military world championship."

What are the main challenges currently facing CISM and how do you plan to address them?

CISM President: "There are several challenges we face. First, we need to ensure that all CISM Category A Sports are scheduled for the next five years in the CISM sport calendar. In addition, we need to promote the participation of women in all events and increase the participation and inclusion of our athletes with disabilities. It will also be necessary to establish partnerships with sponsors in order to widely promote our programs and projects (such as the Sports Program, Solidarity, Sport and Peace, Parasport, etc.) throughout the world. Finally, it will be essential to manage the CISM budget with rigor and transparency. The countries that contribute to CISM in various ways deserve a clear, responsible and respectful report from us. We have a responsibility to report honestly and fairly."

How do you see the future of military sport and what are the goals of your term as CISM President?

CISM President: "If you look into the eyes of a soldier at a military championship, you will see the true essence of motivation and the will to win. It is crucial that we continually feed this flame. We will strive to move forward each day and ensure that every participant or organizer of a CISM event has an exceptional experience. This is our opportunity to spread our motto: "Friendship through Sport!" and help change the world."
