CARACAS (VEN) - The final day of the 4th CISM World Cadet Games concluded in Caracas, Venezuela, with a spectacular performance by the Venezuelan military pentathlon team, who secured two gold medals in the obstacle relay race. This event, hosted at the Bolivarian Army Military Academy of Venezuela, was the highlight of the closing day which began with intense competition in the women's category.
The competition kicked off with high intensity in the women's category, where the Venezuelan team went head-to-head with their Chinese rivals. Both teams delivered outstanding performances, elevating the contest to a thrillingly competitive level. Venezuela advanced to the semifinals, where they faced Russia in a nail-biting race that kept spectators riveted. With a remarkable comeback, the Venezuelan athletes secured a well-earned victory.
In the men's category, Russia and China battled fiercely for a spot in the final, with China ultimately advancing. Venezuela, meanwhile, faced Türkiye in a gripping qualification match, emerging victorious. In the grand final, the Venezuelan team once again confronted China, and through a powerful display of strength and strategy, they clinched the gold.
This double gold not only underscores Venezuela’s athletic prowess but also embodies the spirit of unity and fraternity central to the military pentathlon. The Venezuelan cadets’ exceptional performance has solidified their standing on the global stage, their dedication and skill celebrated by an enthusiastic home crowd.
Following the thrilling conclusion of the pentathlon events, the closing ceremony of the 4th World Cadet Games took place, marking the end of a week-long celebration of athletic excellence and international camaraderie. Nine delegations from around the world, including Russia, China, Türkiye, Iran, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Mozambique, and Nicaragua, gathered in Venezuela to compete in a variety of sports, from track and field to shooting.
Russia emerged as the overall leader in the medal standings, claiming 43 gold, 39 silver, and 25 bronze medals, for a total of 107. China followed in second place with 27 gold, 14 silver, and 27 bronze, totaling 68 medals. Venezuela proudly secured third place with 22 gold, 36 silver, and 31 bronze, amassing a total of 89 medals. The remaining top positions were claimed by Iran, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Türkiye.
The closing ceremony, held at the theater of the Military Academy of the Bolivarian Army of Venezuela, was a grand affair attended by high-ranking officials, including General in Chief Vladimir Padrino López, Vice President for Sovereignty, Politics, Security, and Peace, and Minister of Popular Power for Defense; Mr. Mervin Maldonado, Vice President for Social and Territorial Socialism and Minister of Popular Power for Youth and Sports; José Manuel Zelaya, Nicaragua's Secretary of State for National Defense; the General Staff of the FANB; along with members of the diplomatic corps, special guests, and accredited military attachés.
During the ceremony, General Padrino López highlighted the respect and camaraderie among the cadets: "Military youth have become a global symbol of unity and camaraderie, exemplifying the contributions they can make toward a better future. Their spirit also reflects our steadfast commitment to independence."
The CISM Secretary General, Navy Captain Roberto Recchia, presented a plaque to the Minister of Popular Power for Defense, acknowledging the exceptional effort and hospitality of the Venezuelan authorities and people in hosting the delegations.
As the 4th CISM World Cadet Games come to a close, the legacy of friendship, unity, and sporting excellence among the military youth of the world is firmly established. These Games, first held in Türkiye in 2010, continue to serve as a powerful symbol of international cooperation and camaraderie.
