Day 2 of the 4th CISM World Cadet Games showcases outstanding performances across multiple sports

CARACAS (VEN) - The 4th CISM World Cadet Games continued in Caracas with a full day of intense competitions on Monday, August 19th, as cadets from around the globe competed in Orienteering, Track & Field, Volleyball, Swimming, Shooting, and Fencing. Each event not only tested the physical and mental abilities of the athletes but also highlighted the spirit of international camaraderie that defines these Games.

 

Orienteering: navigating the tough terrain of Tazón

 

The day began with the Orienteering Race in the challenging Pine Forest of Tazón. Competitors from six nations, including Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Russia, Türkiye, China, and the host nation Venezuela, faced a rugged course that demanded both mental acuity and physical endurance. The Forest modality presented a unique challenge for the participants, who had to navigate through rough and complex terrain.

In the men’s category, the podium was dominated by Russian athletes, with Bezvodinskikh Sakhar taking gold, Mediantsev Maksim securing silver, and Shirchkov Aleksandr earning bronze. The women’s race saw a mix of international talent, with Leng Runxue from China claiming first place, Yislaisy Márquez of Venezuela taking silver, and Zhou Jingjing of Russia earning bronze. Venezuelan Yislaisy Márquez emphasized the importance of concentration and map study in tackling the challenging terrain, noting the difficulty of the uphill sections and the need for focus. She also encouraged others to explore Orienteering, highlighting its competitive spirit and sense of camaraderie.

 

Thrilling track and field triumphs:

 

The track and field events at the IV World Cadet Games 2024, held at the “Brígido Iriarte” National Olympic Stadium in Caracas, Venezuela, showcased intense competition and impressive athletic performances.

 

In the men's 5000-meter flat race, Russian Cadet Kaiser Denis emerged as the victor, completing the race in 15:05.71. He was closely followed by Iranian Cadet Safari Amir, who finished with a time of 15:06.95, securing the silver medal. The bronze medal went to Pakistani Cadet Akhart Muhammad, who finished the race in 15:09.85.

 

The men's 400 meters flat race saw its semi-finals take place during the morning session, with athletes from Venezuela, Türkiye, Russia, Iran, Pakistan, and China advancing to the final, which is scheduled for August 20.

In the men's high jump competition, Russian Cadet Vays Ilia claimed first place with an impressive jump of 2.10 meters. Venezuelan Cadet Héctor Añez Navas secured the silver medal by clearing 2.00 meters, while Russian Cadet Eduard Akberdin took bronze with a jump of 1.96 meters.

 

The men's 100 meters flat race was a tightly contested event. Venezuelan Second Lieutenant Bastidas Perdomo won the race with a time of 10.85 seconds, narrowly edging out Russian Cadet Daniil Savenkov, who finished in 10.86 seconds to claim silver. Turkish Cadet Say Mustafa completed the podium, earning the bronze medal with a time of 10.95 seconds. Notably, in the semi-finals, Daniil Savenkov set a new world record with a time of 10.72 seconds, underscoring the high level of competition.

 

In the women's 100 meters flat race, Venezuelan Cadet Osdalis Heredia Veliz secured first place with a time of 12.56 seconds. Her compatriot, Cadet Aleanny Villanueva Gómez, took second place, finishing in 13.15 seconds. The bronze medal went to Chinese athlete Li Jinming, who completed the race in 13.48 seconds.

The mixed 4x400 meters relay race, held under the midday sun, was another highlight of the day. The Russian team claimed the gold medal with a time of 3:36.01, while Venezuela secured the silver medal. The Chinese team finished in third place, earning the bronze.

 

These results from the track and field events reflect the athletes' rigorous preparation and dedication as they represent their nations on the international stage at the IV World Cadet Games 2024.

 

Volleyball: high-energy matches electrify the Bolivarian Army Academy

 

The Volleyball competitions at the Bolivarian Army Academy Gymnasium were a highlight of the day, featuring thrilling matches between teams from several countries. In the men’s category, Russia faced China in a closely contested match, emerging victorious with a 3-0 win. The women’s category also saw fierce competition, with the Russian team defeating China 3-0 in their matchup.

In an exciting twist, Venezuela’s women’s team thrilled local fans by edging out Russia in a nail-biting match, winning 25-20 in the fourth set. This victory was celebrated by both the team and the enthusiastic crowd, showcasing the competitive spirit and home advantage. In the men’s competition, the Russian male team also defeated Venezuela 3 sets to 0.

 

Swimming: medals won amidst stiff competition

 

Swimming events at the Professor Roberto Flores Swimming Complex saw cadets competing in various categories, with medals awarded in the 50-meter backstroke, 100-meter breaststroke, 50-meter butterfly, and the 4x100 freestyle relay.

Venezuela shone in the pool, capturing one gold, two silver, and one bronze medal. This strong performance was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Venezuelan cadets. Other nations also displayed remarkable talent, making the swimming events a true showcase of international athleticism.

 

Shooting: precision and skill on display at El Libertador Range

 

At the El Libertador shooting range, female cadets competed in the 25-meter pistol and 300-meter rifle events. The competition was fierce, with Russia, China, and Venezuela all making it to the podium.

In the 25-meter pistol category, Russia took gold with a score of 782, followed by China with 771 points for silver, and Venezuela with 706 points for bronze. The 300-meter rifle event saw China take the top spot with 481 points, Russia earning silver with 465 points, and Venezuela securing another bronze with 367 points. The high level of precision and skill displayed by all competitors highlighted the rigorous training and dedication required in this sport.

 

Fencing: Venezuela's triumph in a day of duels

 

Fencing was another area where Venezuela made its mark. The men’s team sabre competition saw Venezuela outduel Türkiye with a 6-2 victory, advancing them further in the tournament. The women’s foil competition featured an exciting match between Venezuela and Russia, with the host nation securing a convincing 8-1 win. These victories were celebrated as significant achievements for Venezuelan fencing, demonstrating the country’s growing prowess in the sport.
