BRUSSELS (BEL) - The CISM Athlete of the Year 2022 Award was presented last week to two athletes who have achieved significant athletic performances, associated with the promotion of CISM's values and the enhancement of CISM's visibility, also taking into account the notions of fair play, personal empathy, discipline, respect for the rules and personal behavior.
Athletes eligible for this award are men and women, on active military duty, who have participated in CISM Sport Category 1 events, at the CISM World Military Championships or the CISM World Games (continental and regional competitions under the discretion of the CISM General Secretariat). The period considered for the evaluation is the calendar year of the CISM Championships, from 1 January to 31 December 2022.
In a first step, an online vote was held and 1 female and 1 male athlete were selected, as follows:
In a second step, a vote was carried out by the Presidents of the CISM Sports Committees and four additional candidates (2 men and 2 women) were selected, as follows:
Sergeant Aila Alves Miranda
In the third stage, the six selected athletes were analyzed by the members of the Board of Directors (BoD) and voted on at the first BoD Meeting 2023, in Lucerne (Switzerland), resulting in the winners.
Chief Petty Officer Max Leal Dos Santos
The CISM Male Athlete of the Year 2022 is Chief Petty Officer Max Leal Dos Santos (Brazil - Naval Pentathlon) and the CISM Female Athlete of the Year 2022 is Sergeant Aila Alves Miranda (Brazil - Naval Pentathlon) ! Congratulations to both athletes for their magnificent performances and their investment in our organization !
