CISM and IBU sign historic Memorandum of Understanding in Lucerne

LUCERNE (SUI) - CISM and the International Biathlon Union (IBU) have officially entered a new era of cooperation with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the framework of the 5th CISM Military World Winter Games where the Biathlon competitions were part of the major event programme. 

The MoU was signed by CISM President Colonel Nilton Rolim and IBU President Mr. Olle Dahlin, marking a significant milestone in the collaborative relationship between the two organizations. This partnership aims to foster mutual development, enhance technical cooperation, and promote biathlon.

“This agreement represents a strong commitment to promoting excellence in military sport and to reinforcing the values of discipline, teamwork, and international cooperation through biathlon,” said Colonel Nilton Rolim.

Mr. Olle Dahlin echoed the sentiment: “The IBU is proud to join hands with CISM in this important initiative. We share the same values of fair play, sustainability, and global engagement, and we look forward to the cooperation.”

The MoU outlines a collaborative framework between CISM and the IBU, focusing on:

• The development and promotion of biathlon among military athletes.

• Joint educational and training initiatives for athletes, coaches, and officials.

• Shared efforts in promoting anti-doping, gender equity, and sport for peace and solidarity.

• Coordination in event planning and integration within each organization’s sports calendars.

This landmark agreement solidifies the intent of both organizations to work closely on strategic, technical, and educational levels to strengthen the role of biathlon in military sports programs and enhance international sporting ties.

The signing underscores the legacy of the 5th CISM Military World Winter Games and paves the way for a dynamic future of collaboration between the military and civilian sports worlds.
