10th WMC Golf - Amsterdam (NED) - Update - Final Day

 

 

AMSTERDAM (NED) – The last day of competition of the 10 WMC Golf started under a gloomy weather in the Houtrak Golf Club in Amsterdam (NED). And the least we can say is that the Brazilian team totally dominated the Championship: 5 gold medals in the 5 competition of the WMC and a total of 8 medals on the 15 awarded.

 

 

Indeed, in the individual women’s tournament, as expected, Miriam Nagl (BRA) won the gold medal despite a weak 4th course (76, +4) with a total of 288 (+0). 15 strokes behind Miriam Nagl, the French golfer Anyssia Herbaut finished on the second place of the podium thanks to her best course of the week (71, -1) and a total of 303 (+15). Finally, Brazil is getting a second medal with the bronze medal of Clara Texeira, who managed to catch up with Magdalena Ramirez (USA). Clara Texeira (76, total: 312) was three strokes behind the US golfer at the end of Day 3 and she took a one-stroke advantage on Ramirez (80, total: 313) at the end of the round 4.

 

 

In the ladies team competition, Brazil also won the gold medal thanks to Miriam Nagl and Clara Texeira (total: 600). France (Anyssia Herbaut and Maeva Golf) is on the second step of the podium (total: 643) while the US team composed of Magdalena Ramirez and Shauna Snyder was rewarded with the bronze medal (total: 645).

In the men’s competition, the domination of the Brazilian team was total with 4 athletes ranked on the 4 first places of the tournament and a gold medal in the team competition. Leader at the end of the round 3, Rafael Barcellos completely cracked under the pressure in the round 4 (78, +6) and took the fourth place of the tournament (total 288). Daniel Stapff (BRA) won the gold medal (total 284) just one stroke ahead of his teammate Rodrigo Lee (total 285) who takes the silver medal while André Tourinho claimed the bronze medal with a total of 288 shots.

 

 

In the men’s team competition, Brazil (Ronaldo Francisco, Rafael Barcellos, Daniel Stapff, André Tourinho and Rodrigo Lee) won a new gold medal with a total of 1143 strokes, with a 46-strokes lead on Pakistan (Ansar Mahmood, Adeel Hasmi, Amjad Yousaf, Nisar Hussain and Muhammad Naeem – 1189 strokes). Finally, Germany took the third step of the podium (Timo Vahlenkamp, Sebastian Kannler, Robert Obieglo, Stephan Woodvine, Robert Jobski and Paul Albers) with a total of 1200 strokes.

In the seniors’ individual tournament, Rafael Barcellos (BRA) won the gold medal with a total of 288 strokes (+0), 13 strokes ahead of James Dickson (CAN – total: 30) while the bronze medal goes to Nissar Hussain (PAK) who finished the 4 rounds with a total of 303 strokes (+15).

During the Closing Ceremony, Gen-Brig Ronald Hamsma (Dutch Armed Forces), congratulated the Organizing Committee for this wonderful championship but also the Houtrak Golf Club and all the volunteers who helped to the proper conduct of this 10th WMC. He also highlighted the fact that the next WMC Cycling will take place in the Netherlands in 2018! Lt-Col Walter Borghino, CISM OCR, also presented Mr. Ron De Graaf (OC Member) and Major Arnold Hosté (OC President) with the title of Knight of the CISM Order in recognition of their outstanding contribution to CISM. A commemorative plaque was also awarded to Lt-Col Ard Vermeulen in recognition of the excellent organization and the outstanding work done during this Championship.

 

 

Finally while the CISM Anthem was played, the CISM Flag was lowered and given to the Sri Lanka Chief of Delegation as Sri Lanka will host the next 11th WMC Golf in 2017.
