Rio 2016 Olympic Games - CISM Top Athletes Results - Update 7

 

 

RIO DE JANEIRO – Yesterday, August 11th, was a very successful day for the CISM Top Athletes in Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

 

 

The Romanian fencers Cap. Simona Gherman, Pvt. Simona Pop and Maj. Ana-Maria Popescu took the gold medal in the team women Epée competition. They won their final game 44-38 against China.

 

 

In rowing, SU (FA) Julia Lier (GER) took the first place of the women’s quadruple sculls competition with her teammates Thiele, Baer and Schmidla while SG Wende Philipp (GER) also won the gold medal in the men’s quadruple scull with his teammates Schoof, Schulze and Gruhne.

 

 

OF Barbara Engleder (GER) also won another gold medal for the German Army with her victory in the individual women’s 50m Rifle 3 positions

 

 

In judo, we can count three military athletes on the women’s -78 kg category’s podium, 1 silver medal and 2 bronze medals: Pvt. Audrey Tcheumeo (FRA), European Champion in 2011, 2014 and 2016, lost her final contest against Kayla Harrison (USA) while 3Sgt (Navy) Mayra Aguiar Da Silva (BRA) and Private Anamari Velenŝek (SLO – 2nd in the 2015 Judo World Championships and 1st in the 6th CISM World Summer Games 2015 in Mungyeong) both finished on the third place of the podium!

 

 

The CSKA – Central Army Sports Club member Aliya Mustafina (RUS) won a second medal in these RIO 2016 OG. She finished on the third step of the women’s individual all-around podium.

 

 

In cycling, Pvt. (T) Michael D’Almeida and Pvt. (T) François Pervis together with their teammate Baugé took the bronze medal of the men’s team sprint against Australia in the Rio Olympic Velodrome. It’s the 5th medal for the “Armée des Champions” in Rio.

 

In rowing, Sotto Capo Giovanni Abagnale and his partner Di Costanzo finished at the third place of the men’s pair final while Cpl. Tõnu Endrekson (EST) and his teammates Jamsa, Allar and Taimsoo won the bronze medal in men’s quadruple sculls final.

 

 

 

Unfortunately, SG Karl-Richard Frey (GER) lost his bronze medal contest against Maret (FRA) in the men-100kg category.
