2nd WMC Women’s Basketball – Camp Pendleton (USA) – Update – Day 3
CAMP PENDLETON (USA) – Competition Day 3 of the 2nd WMC Women’s Basketball in Camp Pendleton (USA) and again three wonderful games on the schedule. In the first game of the day, France was facing Germany. The French team had one goal: their first victory in the tournament. And during the first two quarters, France faced once again their lack of accuracy in front of the basketball hoop. The French team is certainly developing one the best game of the tournament but you also need to score points! At the end of the second quarter, France was leading with an advantage of three points (25/22). Finally, in the last two quarters, the French players became more self-confident and started to score more and more points. The game ended with a large and deserved French victory (82/40) against a brave German team, their first victory in the tournament.
One of the biggest favorites of the tournament, Brazil (two victories) was playing against Canada (0 victory). And unlike what we could have thought, it was more difficult than expected for the Brazilian team. After a good start, Brazil came back to the lockers room with a 19 points advantage. But in the last two quarters, the Brazilian players faced the winning edge of the Canadian players and they couldn’t increase significantly their advantage. Brazil finally achieved their 3rd victory of the tournament (65/43) and are still on the top of the tournament’s ranking.
Finally, in their struggle for the gold medal, USA had to face a tricky obstacle: China. Indeed, the Chinese players wanted to erase their loss against Brazil in their second game of the tournament. Moreover, the US team had lost one their best players in the game against France. As expected, the first quarter was very close and USA was leading with 3 point after 10 minutes (23/20). But the second quarter was very difficult for the Chinese team who couldn’t breathe against the US offensives. Score at the halftime: USA 49, China 33. The US players managed to keep China away from them for the rest of the game and won their third victory in a row (73/56).
Tomorrow, China will play against Canada, Germany will face USA and Brazil will have to get rid of France to be in the best conditions for their possible final against USA on Friday.
