CAMP PENDLETON (USA) – As foreseen, for the Competition Day 2 of the 2nd WMC Women’s Basketball in Camp Pendleton (USA), the spectators could attend three wonderful suspense-filled games.
In the first game of the day, after their initial loss against China, a vengeful France was facing USA. The US team wanted to confirm their impressive victory against Canada. The game was very tough and USA quickly took the advantage. As in the first game, France players weren’t very accurate in front of the basketball hoop. The US team benefited from this failures to increase its advantage on the scoreboard. Despite the injury of one of their key player, the US players managed to take an easy win against France (85-53).
Germany and Canada were the next to appear on stage for an all-or-nothing look-alike game. The game was very tight, both team taking the lead one after the other. But in the last minutes of the game, Germany decided to accelerate the pace of the game in the last minute. One minute before the end of the game, Canada was still leading with two points. But the Canadian players made a few fouls and Germany directly took advantage of it: final score, Germany 57, Canada 54.
The last game of the day between China and Brazil was a real thriller. This was not something for the faint of heart! After a very strong start, Brazil was leading 8-0. But the Chinese team directly reacted, equalized and even took the lead. China dominated the first two quarters and came back to the lockers with the lead. The rest of the game was very close and the game even went to extra time. Those 5 minutes were fatal to the Chinese team who missed their last opportunity to equalize 15 seconds before the end of the game. Brazil finally won its second game of the tournament (68-66) and is now leading the ranking with the US team with two victories both.
Tomorrow, France will play against Germany, Brazil will face Canada and USA will have to beat the Chinese team to consolidate its first place
